Vernon's Life Story

Vernon  Arlled Thomas Jr. was born on January 14, 1963, in Kountze, Texas to Vernon Thomas Sr. and the late Maxine Rhone Thomas. He was a lifelong resident of Silsbee, Texas and a hardworking, loving father to Shandi, Eunishia, Brandon, Cordera, Vernon III, and Noah.

Vernon attended St. Beulah Missionary Baptist Church from infancy and grew to accept Christ at an early age. In his recent years Vernon was devoted to attending Wednesday night prayer and Bible study where he continued to develop a deeper relationship with the Lord. He enjoyed reading the bible, was very knowledgeable, and loved to engage in discussion about the word.

A Silsbee High School Class of 1981 graduate, Vernon attended Lamar University for a short period  where he played football. He later completed truck driving school, which began his career journey. While Vernon worked in several capacities as a skillful driver hauling local and cross country for companies, he had a specialty in which he lit up when he talked about. When he began working  alongside family in The Thomas Logging Industry Vernon learned to operate with expertise ALL of the complex equipment. He could cut, drive the skidder, operate the loader, and had a preference for the shearer.  His reputation in the logging industry preceded him.

Vernon was fun, loving, and enjoyed family.  He lived life with an open hand, always willing to give and help others. Smoked cabbage and barbecue was his culinary specialty and he would welcome all to have a plate.  His latest pleasures were watching football, YouTube, and movies. Vernon had a way of telling stories and a laugh like no other.

Vernon is preceded in death by his mother, Maxine Rhone Thomas and nephew Terry Thomas Jr.

He is survived by his children: Shandi Hunt (Richard), Eunishia Thomas, Brandon Chambers (Aunterior), Cordera Wilson, Vernon Thomas III (Sierra), and Noah Thomas (S’Khya). Seven grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Siblings: Terry Thomas (Arrilla), Edgar Thomas (Sherred), Vernell Thomas, and Vera McKenzie.

The family also acknowledges his special aunts Ellen Rhone (Perry),  Brenda Rhone (Ratio), Jewel Barnes (Joe), and Joann Watts (Ahlee) a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and classmates whom Vernon loved dearly.

Special thanks to Brenda Garrett and Taj Baker for all of your care and support.
