Violet Marie Eatherton of St. Petersburg, Florida passed away on June 2, 2025 at the Tampa Lakes Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lutz, Hillsborough County, Florida, shortly before her 100th birthday. She was born on June 18, 1925 in St. Louis, Missouri, to Mary and Ivy Green. She grew up in Cherryville, Missouri, along with her sister, June Nash, and brothers, Eugene and Glen. She married Thomas Charles Eatherton in 1948 and while living in Chesterfield, Missouri raised three children, Susan, Peggy and Thomas, Jr.
Violet was preceded in death by her parents, sister and brothers, and husband (in 1978), and she is survived by her children, two grandchildren (Sara Goff and Thomas C. Eatherton III) and four great-grandchildren (Ava, Amelia and Aneliese Goff and Thomas C. Eatherton IV).
Violet was a member of what has become known as the “Greatest Generation” - named for individuals who were born between the years of 1901 and 1927. This generation has been praised for their resilience and patriotism and strong work ethic. These attributes describe Violet perfectly. She was one of many women who served her country as a welder during World War II to assist in the war efforts. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who selflessly cared for her family. She was actively involved with church activities at Antioch Baptist Church in Chesterfield and enjoyed being a Girl Scout troop leader. After many years of traveling to Florida for summer vacations, the family relocated to St. Petersburg in 1973.
Violet was loved and respected by everyone who knew her, and by those she met through the jobs she held. As a concierge in a St. Pete Beach resort, travelers from around the world who returned for their annual vacation at the resort would always inquire about Violet and bring gifts to her. When she had the opportunity, she enjoyed traveling. And she loved relaxing on the beach to watch the beautiful St. Pete Beach sunsets.
She also loved taking photographs and throughout the years accumulated an impressive number of images. Many of these photographs were organized into photo albums which she carefully prepared for her family.
Truly, Violet exemplified the essence of the Greatest Generation. She will be missed by her family and by everyone who had the opportunity and pleasure of knowing her.
