Guest Book

Not sure what to say?

Walt was my stepdad and adoptive father. To me he was my father, and he looked out for me into young adulthood. My dad had a special charism, which sadly I did not inherit but I wish I had. He had many friends and a life well lived. I've come to learn that Walt's death while sad and heart breaking to those of us who loved him dearly, there is a bit of a silver lining. His corneas have given sight to two people who had lost sight, one a small girl. Walt's kidneys were donated to study...

Walt and my husband John were friends since they were 5. He was the best man at our wedding and they shared 70 years of friendship. Together again, I'm sure they are telling fish stories. Many good memories.

Walt is a friend that goes back to grade school, along with his brothers. He will be missedhe was a larger than life personality

Walter's Obituary

Walter J. Aring, of Toledo and formerly of Empire, MI, passed away suddenly on November 15, 2025 at the age of 74.  He was the first born of Walter E and Ruth E Aring in Toledo on June 17, 1951. He attended Whittier and Start High Schools.

After H.S., he was employed by Champion Spark Plug Co. at its Upton Ave. plant and continued his career in Burlington, Iowa until retirement.  He then built a home in Empire, MI and worked at Munson Hospital in Traverse City delivering supplies where needed. In hopes for better availability to health care for his diseased kidneys, he moved back to Toledo and has been on dialysis for the last several years of his life. He had one of the rarest forms of kidney disease that to this day, they don’t exactly know how treat.  Walter broke several medical records with the largest cystic tumor as 8yo in place of his femur and had a 5/8” steel rod snap inside the bone on the other shortened leg.

He enjoyed cooking, hunting (a Gunsmith), fishing ( a Charter Captain), riding and rebuilding motorcycles, cars and boats.  He also loved animals, having numerous pet dogs, fed deer and other animals at his backyard feed station, even a few bears.

Surviving are his wife, Cindi; 3 younger brothers, Bill (Mary K.), Jim (Mary E.), and Ed (Christine); adopted son, Joe.  Many cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.

A Gathering and Memorial Service will be held Thursday, November 20, 2025 at 7 p.m. at the Foth-Dorfmeyer Mortuary, 1757 Tremainsville Rd. (*now located within the Castillo Funeral Home)
