Walter George Chapman, 90, of Bedford, NH and former resident of Merrimack, NH, passed away on Tuesday, October 7th, 2025 at the Bedford Nursing and Rehab Center after a period of declining health.
He was born in Fall River, MA on April 13th, 1935 to the late George and Mildred (Davis) Chapman. He was raised and educated in the Fall River area.
After high school, Walter enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1955 to 1957 when he was honorably discharged. Upon his discharge, he went to work in the steel industry as a machinist, holding jobs in RI, MA, and NH. He retired at the age of 62. Walter was also a long-time member of the Masons and Order of the Eastern Star in NH.
Along with his parents, he was pre-deceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Lillian (Fisher) Chapman in 2019, his daughter Wendie Chapman in 2015, daughter-in-law Christina (Podesta) Chapman in 2024 and a brother, Kenneth Chapman.
He will be remembered by his four children, Deborah Hall and her husband Douglas of OH, George Chapman of Merrimack, Sandra Chapman and her husband Gary Tuson of Litchfield, and Christopher Chapman of Merrimack; seven grandchildren, Kristyn Hall, Victoria Hall and her husband Joe Girgash, Bradford Hall, Robert Chapman, Michael Chapman and his wife Staci, Britney and her husband Matt Hull and Erica and her husband Logan Madden; 4 great-grandchildren, Hazel, Dean, Jameson and one to be welcomed in March, along with many nieces and nephews.
Memorial visitation hours will be held at the Rivet Funeral Home, 425 Daniel Webster Highway, Merrimack on Monday, November 10th from 5 – 7 PM, with an Eastern Star Service at 6:30 to conclude the evening. A funeral service will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Tuesday November 11th at 11 AM. Burial with military honors will follow at Last Rest Cemetery in Merrimack.
