He will be missed I thought of him as a brother, meet him in 1975 became friends instantly, he lived with my family for a couple years, while helping my dad taking care of the race cars. The Baue family

The #2 Sheraton-Thompson Special at Pebble Beach 2018

I first met Walter at a memorabilia show in January of 1988 where he was looking for info about the Indy cars he was restoring at his shop in Indy. One of the cars he was restoring was the 1965 Lotus 38 of Bobby Johns to which I said I'd love to see it and he said to come by any time. I'd stop by periodically over the coming years to see what cars he was restoring but it wasn't until the George Walther estate auction in October of 2002 where Walter and I developed a much deeper friendship. ...

My daughter Danni and I met Walter by happen stance at an IU/Ball State FB game at Lucas Oil and never lost contact with him. He truly loved IU BB, FB and racing. We had the opportunity to attend a 500 with him and several IU FB games. Sitting with him at the 500 was like than having Donald Davison sitting next you. What an incredible experience! We will never forget Walter's friendship and fervor for all things IU. I had the opportunity/blessing to spend time with Walter late in the...

I feel so blessed to have met and worked with you at Grant King Racing RIP BROTHER

Tipped your chair forward at the lunch table. You will remain alive so long as the last who remembers you.

I first met Walt when I started at Goodwood back in 2005. Since I was responsible for organising all of the cars back then, he was my go to person for advice on which Indy cars we should considering bringing across to the Festival of Speed. I always thought it was talking to a walking Indy history book, so loved our conversations. Walt was instrumental in bringing many great cars over the pond across the years, and kindly hosted me when I visited Indianapolis one year. Most importantly though...

Although I knew about Walter by reputation, I didn't get to meet him until around 2014 when I was researching the histories of the early Gurney Eagles. We both had a keen interest in the subject and got on very well together. I always looked forward to visiting the shop whenever I was in Indianapolis. It was like an Aladdin's Cave for someone like me, with race cars in various states of restoration. I'm very sad that those visits and chats have now come to an end. R.I.P.

Walt was a great help to me doing transaxle work on my vintage Indy when we were completely lost as what to do to the car. He also helped me arrange for my car to be shipped to Goodwood and number of years ago. He was a true gentleman and while not spending a lot of time with him personally, everytime I saw him he greeted me as an old friend. Rest in peace Walt. You were one of the genuine good guys.

Oh, Walter...
