I was shocked and saddened to hear about Matt. He will be missed at the Community Center, I would look forward to seeing his friendly face every Thursday. A really great guy. My condolences to Kay and her family.

Matt’s legacy will continue through the lives he touched. The world is better because of him and we will miss him.

Walter's Obituary

Walter Mathew Quitter Jr, known to all as Matt, 76, of Lucketts, VA passed away on Friday evening October 17, 2025, surrounded by family.  He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on February 15, 1949, to Walter & Shirley Quitter

Matt is survived by his wife Kay, and they were married for 43 years.  He is also survived by his Daughters & Son-In-Laws Georgia & Ted Pitrone (Virginia Beach, VA)  and Jessica & Michael Wilkinson (Chesapeake, VA), his Son and Daughter-In-Law Nick & Emily Quitter (Twickenham, UK), his grandchildren Tim Reinhart & wife Katie (Brevard, NC), Michael Wilkinson & husband Adam (Pasadena, MD), Malia Pitrone (Orlando, FL), Troy  Wilkinson (Chesapeake, VA), Freya Quitter & Eloise Quitter (Twickenham, UK) and great-grandchildren Everett Reinhart & Amelia Reinhart (Brevard, NC).  He is pre-deceased by his sister, Betty Ann Ridings and survived by 3 brothers, Richard Quitter (OK), David Quitter (WY) & Jim Quitter (UT) and many nieces & nephews.

Matt traveled and lived in many states during his father's government career as well as Bogota, Columbia where he learned Spanish.  The family settled in Vienna, Virginia where Matt attended Thoreau Middle School and graduated from Madison High School in 1967.  He then joined the Marine Corp, where he was stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, NC and then Iwakuni, Japan during the Vietnam era.  He was trained in Avionics and held a rank of Corporal.  After his military duty he worked for Xerox Corporation from 1972 to 2003 as a Service Technician and Trainer. In 1990 he joined the Lucketts Ruritan Club and served on the Board of Directors from 2010 thru 2016.  From 1999 to date, he worked full and part-Time for Loudoun County Parks & Recreation at the Lucketts Community Center as a Facility Supervisor In 1998, Matt and 3 other Lucketts residents formed and began Boy Scout Troop 1910.  Matt held the position of Committee Chairman until May of 2025 and remained Chairman Emeritus. 

Matt’s love was his wife, his children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren, his community, fishing on the beach In Avon, NC, his record collection, the “Verenda” and his shop.  If you needed any tool, just let him know which one, what size, how many and what color.  Oh, and be sure to log into the Sign-in/Sign-out book.

A private family “Celebration of Life” is being held on November 10, 2025.   "A Community "Celebration of Life" will be held Saturday, November 22, 2025, from 11am to 2pm at the Lucketts Community Center in Lucketts, VA (42361 Lucketts Road, Leesburg, VA 2017)
