We had some good times at Sotheast Elementary. Walter took great care of the teachers. He was our friend and a friend to our families. I’m so glad I saw you at Walmart. It was a great seeing you.

Walter Lee “Crow/Big Baby” Rainey was born on July 16, 1953, in the state of Mississippi to the late Frank Rainey and Margaret Pippens-Rainey. He and his twin brother were the youngest of thirteen children.
He grew up in the South and later relocated to Sikeston, Missouri, where he met the love of his life, Ms. Vera Moore. The two were united in marriage in 1976, sharing a devoted and loving union until her passing. Walter worked faithfully for over 20 years in the janitorial and custodial departments for Lincoln School and the Sikeston School District. Later in life, he gave his life to Christ.
Walter was preceded in death by his loving wife of 39 years, Vera (Moore) Rainey; his parents; four brothers—Harvey Agnew, Frank J. Rainey, Henry Rainey, and George Rainey; and six sisters—Jennie V. Bellmon, Helen Rainey-Brooks, Christine Gaynor, Mary O’Neal, Patricia Hollingbird, and Jessie Rainey.
Walter leaves to cherish his memory: one daughter, Ramona Rainey of Memphis, Tennessee;one son, Walter Rainey Jr. of Ste. Genevieve, Missouri; four grandchildren—Taylor McIntyre of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; Kevin Morris Jr. (Cassie), stationed in Korea; Kayeshia Morris (Dominque) of Memphis, Tennessee; and Kaleigh Baker of Kirksville, Missouri; seven great-grandchildren—Cai, Caitlyn, Korra, Kendyl, Keyln, Rashaad, and Rashuan; one sister, Juanita (Booker T.) Brooks of East St. Louis, Illinois; his twin brother, Arthur “Lil Baby” Rainey of Columbia, Missouri; four brothers-in-law—Samuel Bellmon of Chicago, Illinois; William Gaynor of Montpelier,Virginia , Ned Dixon and Roy Moore of Sikeston, Missouri; two sisters-in-law—Pearlie Moore and Linda (Williamson) Moore of Sikeston, Missouri; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends who loved him dearly.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Saturday, January 10, 2026, at West End Missionary Baptist Church, 1004 Maude St., Sikeston, MO, with visitation beginning at 11 am until the time of service at 12 noon. Burial will follow at the Sunset of Memories Cemetery on 113 Alabama St, Sikeston, MO 63801.
