Mr. Walter Earl Schmierbach, of Wright City, Mo. formally of St. Charles, passed away on Friday, December 22, 2023, at his home. He was born on October 2, 1927, in St. Louis to the late John A and Anna Louis (nee: Hornung) Schmierbach. Walter had reached the age of 96 years.
Walter proudly served our country in the United State Army in 1945-1946, and then served in the United States Navy form 1951-1955. He was united to Marion (nee: Schulte) Schmierbach for 38 years before her passing. To this union four children were born. He later was united in marriage to Mary (nee: Giolivo) Schmierbach. Walter was a member of the Widow and Widowers Call Group of St. Charles, after he lost both of his wives. He was a member of the Wood Carver's Club of St. Charles and the VFW of O'Fallon. Walter was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many.
Walter Schmierbach was preceded in death by his first wife, Marion Schmierbach; his second wife, Mary Schmierbach; one daughter, Marlene Schmierbach and daughter in law, Teresa Schmierbach; three sisters, Irma Geldbach, Evelyn Prediger and Ruth Schroeder; one brother John Schmierbach. Family members who are grateful for having shared in Walter's life are his children, Mark Schmierbach, Richard Schmierbach and wife Sheila, Michael Schmierbach and wife Julie, daughter in law, Wendy Russ, Vicki Clark and husband David and Tony Giolivo and wife Mary; six grandchildren, Holly Duvall (Scott Berthof), Ethan Schmierbach (Baily O'Dell) Tracy King (Leroy), Dominic Schmierbach, Alex Schmierbach and Christopher Burgess; great grandchildren, Zeke, Evie Lyn, Asza, Noah, Isaac, Bailie, Adalee, and Hailiegh; other relatives and close family friends.
The family of Walter Schmierbach will host a Celebration of Life Visitation on Saturday, January 20, 2024, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM at Martin Funeral Home in Warrenton.
