Not sure what to say?

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always. Aunt Wanda was a great lady and mom and grandmother.

Leesa,
I am sorry to hear about the loss of your Mom. She was a special lady. I loved learning to cook in her class! I am thankful that I saw you and your mom while shopping last Fall and was able to have a nice conversation with both of you. I could tell that she was very proud of you.
Praying for you and your family as you go through this difficult transition.

I enjoyed teaching at Indian Creek with Mrs. Long. She almost always had a smile on her face and the energy of a pre-schooler. All of who knew her were blessed. May she Rest in the arms of Jesus In Peace.

Mrs. Long was one of the best Christians and teachers we ever knew. She always was serving others with such joy. She led the Sunshine Society during our high school years and taught us how to love those less fortunate than we were. She was a confidant and friend as well. We look forward to seeing her in Heaven someday.

Im so so sorry for your loss. She touched a lot of lifes at Indian Creek. (Class of 1979)

A True Lady...Fond memories I will always have..Love to All..

I knew Wanda from The Interchurch Food Pantry of Johnson County several years ago. Despite the time passed, I remember her for her independence and love of helping those in need. Many good folks volunteer at the Pantry, both past and present, but Wanda exhibited a loving and caring attitude for those who were less fortunate and she was so humble in doing so. She could been seen on that ride mower cutting her big yard on many occasion, showing her independence. She will be missed. Keeping all...

Remember the Time we went to Deep Purple at Market square and your mom took us and picked us up at 11 my folks wouldn't do it so sweet

Mrs Long was a favorite teacher at NHJ, coworker, and friend Love to her family

Obituary

Wanda's Obituary

Wanda J. (Meyers) Long, 91, passed away from a devastating stroke on August 26, 2018 surrounded by her loving family and friends. She lived an active, joyful, and rewarding life filled with quilting, volunteering, and time spent with her family and friends.

Born in Paducah, Kentucky, on February 8, 1927 to George and Bertha (Cooper) Meyers, Wanda spent the early years of her life in Kentucky before her family moved to Southern Illinois. There, at age 19, she was the teacher and principal of a one-room school for children in grades one through 12. She obtained her bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University, and then moved to Indiana, where she obtained her master’s degree at Indiana University. Her home economics teaching career in the Nineveh-Hensley-Jackson school system spanned decades. Upon retiring, Wanda worked in the fabric department at Walmart for over 10 years. She also volunteered for over 25 years at numerous places, including Johnson County Memorial Hospital, the Franklin Senior Center, Indiana CASA and the Interfaith Food Pantry.

Wanda’s greatest passion was quilting, and at the time of her passing, she had hand-quilted over 75 beautiful quilts. Over the past 15 years, she raised over $20,000 for the American Cancer Society in memory of her daughter, Debbie, by raffling her quilts at the Franklin Relay for Life. Her countless close friends and neighbors admired her for her generosity, kindness, humility, independence, and love for her family.

Wanda is survived by her daughter, Leesa (Long) Friedlander; her son-in-law Steve Friedlander; her two grandchildren, Zach Friedlander and Jamie Serrano (David); and her great-granddaughter Olivia Rose. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Debbie Long.

A funeral service celebrating Wanda’s life will be held on Saturday, September 1, at 3:30 p.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton Street (U.S. 31) in Franklin. Friends and family may call from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Young’s Creek Cemetery.
