My condolences to the family of Warren! I had the honor and privilege of being part of Warren’s life through VA Recreation Therapy and the Adaptive Sports program. He was truly a joy and an active participant in our program. Warren’s smile and quick wit will always be with me. A life well lived!

In Loving Memory of Warren Lewis Heyer
Warren Lewis Heyer, age 101, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025, under the compassionate care of the Sioux Falls VA Hospice Cottage. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many.
A funeral service will be held at Heritage Funeral Home on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 11:00 AM, with visitation beginning one hour prior. Interment will follow at George Cemetery in George, Iowa.
Warren was born on August 26, 1924, on the family farm in Madison, Minnesota. In third grade, he moved with his family to rural Larchwood, Iowa, where he attended Larchwood Elementary and Middle School before graduating from George High School.
After high school, Warren remained on the family farm to help his father. In 1943, he met the love of his life, Jennie Bartels, on a dance floor. They married two years later in a small country church in Little Rock, Iowa, and were blessed with three children: Eugene, Paula, and Marilyn.
Warren proudly served his country through the United States Naval Academy, completing one year of active duty during World War II and eight additional years in the Naval Reserves. After receiving an honorable discharge, he returned to George and the family farm.
Warren and Jennie raised their children on the farm, cherishing time outdoors, pony rides, and family outings to local baseball and softball games. Once their children were grown, they moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where Warren earned a business degree and began a career with Northern States Power as a public relations coordinator. He later founded his own real estate company.
Warren was deeply committed to his community, serving on numerous boards including the American Legion, American Legion Choir, Sioux Empire Fair Board, Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce, and the South Dakota Electrical Council.
Even in retirement, Warren remained active—working part-time transporting vehicles for a local car dealership, woodworking, flipping houses, birdwatching, babysitting grandchildren, listening to big band music, attending weekly church services, and passionately following his favorite team, the Minnesota Twins.
Warren was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of 67 years Jennie, his son Eugene, and daughter Paula Ruud.
He is survived by his loving family: daughter Marilyn (John) Jackson of Healdsburg, CA; son-in-law Conley Ruud of Sioux Falls; grandchildren Sara (Casey) Haas of Waconia, MN, and Ryan (Jen) Ruud of Shakopee, MN; and great-grandchildren Olivia, Mallory, Owen, Nathan, and Greta.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Sioux Falls VA Hospice Center, a place Warren deeply appreciated.
