It is with great sadness the family of Wayne Prokopchuk of Swan Plain, SK, announce his sudden passing on February 8, 2024, at the age of 63 years.Wayne was born on October 21, 1960, in Canora, SK, to Steve and Anna (nee Cybak) Prokopchuk.  He attended school in Norquay, graduating in 1978.In his grade 12 year, he rented his first quarter of land and seeded it that spring.  Along with farming, he worked as a mechanic at Canora Central Motors, then worked on a gravel crusher.  He took over the family farm in 1981 and spent the winters working in the logging industry until 2003.On August 13, 1983, he married Gladys Abrahamson.  They lived just south of the family farm, before moving into the home that Wayne grew up in, where they raised their family and still live to this day.  They had four children: Riley, Jodi, Murray, and Mitchel.  They farmed grain and cattle over the years, and in 2022 sold their herd to focus on grain farming and allow more time to spend with their grandchildren.  He lived for the farm, and was proud to know that his sons would continue farming. He enjoyed supporting local organizations and was a proud member of the local Legion, was on the co-op board for many years along with other local boards over the years. He loved spending time at the lake with family camping, fishing, and taking the kids for tube rides.  Their annual trip to Iskwasum was one of his favourites.  He was a proud Gido and would do anything for his grandchildren.  He was always quick to go out to see the horses with Vera and Ivy.  He would take Reid and Myles on countless tractor rides, and never missed a hockey game of Raya and Elle’s, even if he had to watch most of their games online.Wayne is predeceased by his parents, Steve and Anna Prokopchuk and father-in-law, Gerald Abrahamson; and brother-in-law, Charlie Bagshaw.  He is survived by his wife, Gladys; children: Riley (Tricia), Jodi (Justin), Murray (Courtney), Mitchel (Alyssa); grandchildren: Raya, Elle, Ivy, Vera, Reid and Myles; his sisters, Diane Shelenko (Jerry) and Irene Griffith (Hal); brothers, Steven and Gary; mother-in-law, Shirley Abrahamson; and in-laws: Beth, Don and Dawna, Ken and Theresa, Paul and Sue, Wes and Sandi, Leroy and Audrey, Brad and Vi, Cecil and Jeab, Neil and Tess; as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends.A Public Celebration of Life was held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 14, 2024, from the Norquay Communiplex Hall, Norquay, SK, with Velda Dahlin officiating.
