Wayne Matthew Stitch passed away with his beloved wife at his side on February 25, 2019. He was 67 years old.
Wayne was born on February 24, 1952, in Anchorage, Alaska, to Wray Matthew and Ruby Irene Stitch. Wayne spent his younger years traveling with his father Wray, mother Irene, sisters Jeanne, Terry, and Lori, and his brother Gary. The Stitch family resided in Alaska, Minnesota, Washington D.C., Montana, Mississippi, and Tennessee before settling in Lompoc, California in 1965.
After graduating Lompoc High School in 1970, Wayne attended Cal Poly University and received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree in 1975. He went on to fulfill a 43-year long career as a Civil Engineer at Vandenberg Air Force base before his retirement 2014.
Wayne’s life would change forever on the evening of an unassuming blind date in 1987, where he met the love of his life, Agnes Manalo Luna. He married Agnes in 1988, and together began a new life with their daughter Michelle and son, Michael, in a loving Vandenberg Village home.
Wayne was a dignified and humble man. He was a loving husband, a caring father, and a professional engineer. His proud demeanor and avid carpentry was matched only by his terrible dad-jokes and love of his wife’s cooking. He loved his wife’s cooking so much in fact, he constantly insisted he could do it better. His wife disagreed. He was present at every step in his family’s life, and loved his wife, son, and daughter more than life itself.
Wayne fought valiantly for three years against cancer before being called upon by the Lord above. The presence of his siblings and family in his final moments on this earth brought warmth and closure to his heart. He will be missed dearly, and wants us to remember his colorful personality and enduring happiness.
Wayne is preceded by his father Wray, mother Irene, and sister Jeanne. He is survived by his brother Gary, sisters Terry and Lori, his wife Agnes and their children, Michelle and Michael.
Wayne’s public viewing will be held on Sunday, March 3, 2019, at the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary between the hours of 4:00 – 7:00 PM. His service will be held at the Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Mission Hills Monday, March 4 2019, at 1:00 PM.
