Wilbur R. Renskers

Wilbur R. Renskers, 100, of Mohawk St., Clymer, NY., died Saturday, October 21, 2017, at the Corry Manor. He was born April 9, 1917, in Clymer, NY., a son of the late George Raymond and Mary Fardink Renskers. Wilbur was raised and educated in Clymer and graduated from Clymer High School in 1935. He was drafted into the U. S. Army in 1944 and served as an infantry replacement in the 288th Combat Engineer Battalion, 9th Army in Central Europe and Rhineland Campaigns. Upon his honorable discharge in 1946, Wilbur returned to Clymer and worked for Raymond Manufacturing until 1949. He then started working for the US Postal Service, first as a clerk and then as a rural carrier in 1967 until his retirement in 1980. He was a 70 year member of the American Legion and of the Olive Lodge #575 F & AM. He was also an 82 year member of Clymer United Methodist Church, having sung in the choir for 75 years from age 15 to 90. Besides his family, Wilbur loved cars, having owned 88 of them in his lifetime. His 1973 Buick Riviera Boattail was his favorite - and this was a man who, when he was young, was so mad at his dad for trading their beautiful horse for a car..."who would want that hunk of tin?" Wilbur was fun-loving, soft spoken and known for his original poems (he called himself "the Clymer Rhymer"). He will be greatly missed by family and friends. He loved having coffee in the mornings and suppers at night at the Dutch Village Restaurant in Clymer. Wilbur's favorite saying was "everything is just so different." In addition to his parents, Wilbur was preceded in death on December 15, 2008, by his wife, Roberta Thompson Renskers, whom he married May 11, 1940 in Clymer, NY.; his step-mother, Christina Renskers; step-sister Krena Renskers Fisher; son-in-law., Larry Rhebergen; and brothers-in-law, Richard Fisher, and Ralph and Gail Thomspon. Wilbur is survived by a daughter, Suzanne Rhebergen of Clymer, NY.; a grandson Brent Rhebergen and his wife Annette; a great-grandson, Jarrett; three great-granddaughters, Samantha, Allison, and Riley; and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends may call at the Clymer United Methodist Church, 565 Clymer Sherman Rd., Clymer, NY., on Tuesday from 6 to 8 pm., and attend the funeral service there on Wednesday at 11 am. Rev. John Rough will officiate. Burial will be in Holland Cemetery, Clymer, NY.
