William “Bill” Thompson Emanuel, age 75, passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at Bladen County Hospital in Elizabethtown, NC.
Bill was the youngest of six children born to the late Robert Cochran Emanuel and Elizabeth Gourley Emanuel on January 10, 1950 in Hopkinsville, KY to. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers; Robert Cochran Emanuel, Jr., and James Berry Emanuel, sisters; Elizabeth “Betty Lee” Emanuel Porter, Wilmirth Ann Emanuel Potter and Emily Atrell McKenzie.
Bill served his country in the US Army. Much of his life after his discharge from the army was spent caring for his aging parents. Bill was a member of Chestnut Methodist Church in Lumberton. Bill enjoyed sports, chatting about football and playing badminton with nieces and nephews during childhood visits. He was, like many in the family, an avid bridge player. Bill also had a great voice and loved to sing. He was a graduate of Lumberton High School.
Bill leaves to cherish his memory his nieces; Catherine Fox, Brenda Standard, Elizabeth “Betty Kay” Sellers, Beth Goins, Teresa Potter Smith, Patricia Malpass, nephews; Scott Emanuel and Greg McKenzie, and fifteen great nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Graveside at 10:00 am on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at Garden of Faith Cemetery, 5190 Fayetteville Rd, Lumberton, NC 28360. Rev. Herbert Lowry will officiate the service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation to Chestnut Street Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.
