William (Bill) Kenneth Lanier, Jr. 88 of Welcome passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at Brookdale Senior Living Community.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, January 25, 2019 at Center United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Center United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 2:00 until 3:00 pm, preceding the funeral service, as well at other times at the home. Those officiating include Pastor Mitch Wilson, Minister Tim Utt, Pastor Matthew Sink, and Chaplain Sara Smith.
Bill was born March 22, 1930 in Davidson County to Kendrick and Mary Everhart Lanier. He graduated from Welcome High School and earned a business degree from Ashmore Business College. He remained close to his graduating high school class and continued to have yearly high school reunions for many years. Bill was an honor guard and a member of the intelligence division, serving our country proudly for four years in Berlin, Germany in the United States Air Force. He also remained close to many members of his unit, sharing numerous phone calls and visits. He was proud to serve as a Little League Coach, and as a member of the Welcome Volunteer Fire Department for years, where he also served on its board of directors. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing, and all things in nature. He was previously employed with Lacy J. Miller Machine Company. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Hilda Hinkle (Alex); his mother-in-law, Vida Stabler; father-in-law, P.W. Stabler, and his brother-in-law, Brent Stabler (Kathy).
His life will be forever cherished by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Sherry Stabler Lanier and his daughter, Shelly Lanier (Tim). He is also lovingly remembered by his nieces, Alexis Pollock, Jamie Stabler (Nate), Brooke Stabler Hutchins (Brandon), Megan Stabler Hill (Keith), Emily Hooper (Tim); nephews, Jeremy Ammons (Kelly), Davy Ammons (Angela); great-nieces, Reagan Hill, Alee Ammons; great-nephews, Kaleb Ammons, Kameron Shoaf, Seth Hutchins, Cole Hutchins; brothers-in-law, Mark Stabler and Gregg Stabler (Glenda).
Our family would also like to express sincere and heartfelt thanks to the Claire Bridge Staff at Brookdale, as well as to Megan and Kim, our Hospice nurses, for their unwavering kindness, love, and compassion. We would also like to extend our warmest thanks to the countless family, friends, and neighbors who have encouraged and sustained us through this journey.
