William Kent Stacy, age 79, of Roanoke, Virginia, formerly of Hardy, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, January 13, 2026, at his residence, surrounded by the love, comfort, and presence of his family. Kent was born on August 21, 1946, in Hardy, Kentucky, to the late James William Stacy and Gracie Scott Stacy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 46 years, Ruth Stacy; his brothers, David Tim Stacy and Gary Ray Stacy; and his cherished grandson, William Zachary Stacy.
Kent retired from Norfolk and Southern Railroad after 37 years of dedicated service, working as a yard clerk and faithfully serving for many years as the TSU local union chairman. He was known for his strong work ethic, integrity, and steadfast commitment to those he represented. A man of deep and abiding faith, Kent was a devoted Christian who lived his life in service to the Lord. He was a faithful member of both Sharondale Church of Christ and Hardy Church of Christ, where his quiet strength, kindness, and testimony were evident to all who knew him. Beyond his professional and spiritual life, Kent was deeply invested in his community. He proudly served for many years as President of the Pike County Pride Board, working tirelessly to promote growth, unity, and pride in the area he loved so dearly. His dedication to improving the lives of others left a lasting impact on countless friends and neighbors.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Kathryn Deanell Brubaker (Laura) of Roanoke, Virginia, and Danita Lynn Odum (Ray) of Jacksonville, Florida; his brother, Danny Stacy of Hardy, Kentucky; and his sister, Joan Stacy of Patalaka, Ohio. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Roy Edward Wilson III, Lauren Briana Kelly, William Clay Stacy (Sarah), and Joshua Todd McGinnis; his great-granddaughters, Kimberly Zelda Rose Stacy and Khannan Gracie Ruth Kelly; his special friend, Pamela Steenbuck; along with a host of extended family members and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to The Good Samaritan Hospice of Roanoke, Virginia, for their compassionate care, kindness, and unwavering support during this time.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at R.E. Rogers Funeral Home, with Bob Wertnz officiating. Burial will follow in the Scott Cemetery in Hardy, Kentucky. Pallbearers will be Roy Edward Wilson III, William Clay Stacy, Joshua Todd McGinnis, Edward Ray Odum, Jimmy Dale Sanders, and Paul Scott. Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Cisco, Dickie Smith, and Danny Stacy. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at R.E. Rogers Funeral Home.
