William H. Vaughan, Sr.

William Henry Vaughan Sr., son of the late Annie Organ Vaughan and William Vaughan was born on June 7, 1926 in Petersburg, Virginia. He departed this life unexpectedly on November 11, 2017 at his home of 66 years.

William received his education in Petersburg, Virginia and then joined the U.S. Armed Forces where he served many years and achieved corporal ranking before his honorable discharge.

He moved to Baltimore, MD in 1945 and married Bernice Kiah in 1951. From this union William became a devoted husband and father of 11 children.

He was employed with Social Security Administration and was awarded for his invention of the "forklift" although he was recognized with a certificate and token he should of received the patent because this piece of equipment is still used world wide.

William had a gift of architect and artist he enjoyed sketching and drawing and had many on display on his basement walls. He also sketched and invented a hand cart for the U.S. Post Office and after 35 years of employ- ment retired in 1988.

Affectionately called Dada by all his children, grand and great-grand. He was a homebody and his bedroom was his place to be, also where we would often find him on his knees praying. William had an unique personality, as a disciplinary and provider. He devoted his life to the comfort and well-being of his family and would surely remind everyone that he was an Army man.

One of his most recent highlights was taking a road trip back to his home- town with his niece, Ernestine and nephew, Payton. He also assumed role of Dad and helped raise his granddaughter, Tonesha who held a special place in his heart.

Up until his last day, William was determined to be self-sufficient, take care of himself and maintained his home. He amazed his family with his strength and tenacity and even assisted in taking care of his wife.

The oldest root of his family tree has left a legacy and many branches of the Vaughan'S. Our Army man was called home on Veteran's Day and we all found consolation with that. Job Well Done!

His brother James, sister Rebecca, son Dennis and grandson Keith preceded him in death.

He leaves to cherish his memories: a loving and devoted wife, Bernice; 10 children, Sandra, William Jr., Steve (Brenda), Gwen, Greg, Rodney, Marvin, Janice, Tony and Cheryl Vaughan; 22 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
