Age ~ 81
William Joseph Weyker, 81, of Rhinelander, passed away on Friday evening, August 15, 2025, with his family at his side at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
William was born on May 2, 1944, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, to Eugene and LaVerne (Huiras) Weyker. He was raised in the Random Lake/Waubeka area on his grandparents' farm, graduating in 1962, from Random Lake High School.
He attended UW Madison for a year after high school. He then attended the Bryant & Stratton Business College from 1966 until 1967. Bill served in the U.S. Army from 1968-1971. He proudly served his country in Vietnam, achieving the rank of Specialist 5. He did many things while serving in the military, including serving as part of the Quartermaster Corps and repairing radios while deployed in Vietnam. Bill was self-taught in building computers and that became a big hobby of his.
Both before and after his military service, Bill owned and operated his own business doing TV repair, radio repair, appliance repair, and antenna installation, in Fredonia, Wisconsin and later in Waubeka, Wisconsin calling it Willy’s TV and Appliance. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Sharon L. Sterman, on August 18, 1979. The couple owned/managed two True Value Hardware Stores, one in Waubeka, Wisconsin and the other in Naples, Texas. A son, Eugene, was born in Wisconsin and a daughter, Evelyn, was born in Texas. The family lived in Texas for more than thirty years. William also owned his own insurance agency, Bill Weyker Insurance, from 1991 until 2011 when William retired. While working as an insurance agent, he was also a member of the United Farmers Agents Association, serving in a leadership role in his local chapter. In 2013, Bill retired to Rhinelander, WI, with his wife to enjoy the Northwoods and his family.
He was a member of the National Radio Institute, V.F.W. Post #7037 Waubeka, and the V.F.W. Post #8637 Eagle River. He was also a member of the Fort Lee Flying Club. He was a volunteer firefighter in Waubeka. Bill also participated in/helped lead the Job Seekers Ministry/Between Jobs Ministry in DeSoto, TX with his wife, Sharon. Bill was a member of the St. Kunegunda of Poland Catholic Church in Sugar Camp.
At a young age, Bill took flying lessons and received his pilot’s license. He was very proud of being a pilot. He continued to enjoy flying, even in his retirement years. He enjoyed stamp and coin collecting, restoring vintage cars, building computers, attending auctions (he loved to get a good deal), and woodworking. Bill also enjoyed snowmobiling and playing with his dog, Twilight.
Surviving are his children, Eugene Weyker (Lauren Crow) of Gleason, and Evelyn Weyker (Ryan Miller) of Rhinelander, three grandchildren, Harley Weyker (Dylan Spencer), Declan Miller, and Eugene Miller, siblings, Kathleen (Gerald) Krause of Muskego, WI, and Karen (Randy) Shepherd of Oshkosh, WI. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, parents, and both sets of grandparents including Joseph D. and Susan M. (Geib) Huiras, who had a large part in raising Bill. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald Weyker and Kenneth J. Schloemer.
The family would like to send a special thanks to Nicole Van Vuren of Village Caregiving for being a great friend and caregiver to Bill the last few years of his life.
