FREEMAN, Mr. Willie-age 92, of Flint, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2018 at his residence. A graveside service will be held 11:00 am Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, Mt. Morris, MI. Dr. Henry L. Fuller, Jr. officiating.Mr. Willie Freeman was born August 12, 1925, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo and Mary Broughton. He was the grandson of Deacon and Mrs. John and Vashti Freeman. He accepted Christ at an early age at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Chipley, Georgia. He attended school in Chipley, GA and East Depot High School in LaGrange, GA. Later he served in the United States Army and was Honorably Discharged. Mr. Freeman retired November 1, 1975 from Ternstedt Factory a division of General Motors. He loved to sing as well as play the harmonica and piano. Being a talented musician he released a record in the early 50’s. Arriving to Flint in the 50’s, he became a member of the Antioch Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. L.W. Pryor. Mr. Freeman was an avid golfer and received many trophies until his health failed in May 2015. He loved to travel throughout the United States and Europe. He was a very friendly and caring man that truly loved his family very much and will be missed.Mr. Willie Freeman leaves to cherish his memory: devoted niece, Mrs. Pauline Pryor; grandniece, Mrs. Cheryl and Rev. David Greer; great-grandnieces and nephew, Kellee, Larry and Crystal all of Dallas, TX; several other nieces, nephews, cousins, and step children.Special thanks to stepsons, Robert “Plug” Banyard, Ronald Moore; nephew, Leroy Smith; friends, Minister Janice Mosley and Karen Aldridge-Eason who would visit, pray with him, call and cook good food that he loved. Highest praise and gratitude goes to Mrs. Dorothy Leonard, manager at Granny’s Place; nurse, Mr. Theodore “Ted” Nagy; social worker, Mrs. Mary Mortiz who gave him special care and attention, along with the entire staff at Heart to Heart Hospice Center of Swartz Creek, Michigan. They are an extraordinary group of people.Mr. Freeman was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Alonzo Broughton, Mr. and Mrs. George and Mary Owens; grandparents, Deacon and Mrs. John and Vashti Freeman; 3 sisters, Mrs. Alice Dean, Mrs. Cora Andrews, Mrs. Vashti Richardson; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; 2 wives, Mrs. Emma Freeman and Mrs. Mary Jo Freeman.Mr. Willie Freeman lived a good life to the fullest, but now, he is gone to be with the Lord. “Gone but he will never be forgotten.”
