Willie's Obituary

Our beloved father, Willie Thomas Wright, Jr., affectionately known as “Son,” peacefully transitioned from this life on September 22, 2025, at Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk, Virginia, after a brief illness.

Born and raised in Suffolk, Virginia, Willie was the cherished son of the late Willie Wright, Sr. and Carrie Lee Wright. A devoted father, grandfather, and friend, he was known for his lively spirit, his deep love for family, and his joy for life. Willie’s presence was magnetic—he could brighten any room with his singing, dancing, and laughter. One of his greatest pleasures was faithfully riding his bicycle across town, a simple passion that brought him great happiness until his health began to decline.

Willie was preceded in death by three brothers—Carl Worrell, Rolidon Worrell, and Eddie Wright—and one sister, Juanita Wright.

He leaves to cherish his memory three loving daughters: Janice Holland (Troy) of Suffolk, VA; Meronica Wright of Portsmouth, VA; and Raven Griffin of Hawaii. Willie is also survived by four aunts: Ann Stephenson and Linda Parker, both of Murfreesboro, NC; Harriet Morris of Richmond, VA; and Geraldine Jefferson of Atlanta, GA.

His legacy continues through six grandchildren—Laprecious Wright, LaPorsha Jordan, Latavia Wright, Abria Wright, Labria Wright, and Tabatha Wright—and nineteen great-grandchildren. He will also be lovingly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Willie’s laughter, kindness, and joyful spirit will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew him. Though he has departed from this earthly home, his memory will live on as a source of comfort, love, and strength to his family and friends.

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul.” — Psalm 23:1–3
