                          Obituary 

Ms. Winona Hunt, daughter of the late Arnado and Lilly Kay Cunninghan Hunt was born August 14, 1951, in Connelly Springs, North Carolina.  She departed this life on Sunday, January 18, 2026 at the Greens of Hickory, after a long-fought illness.  She was 74 years 5 months and 4 days old.

Winona truly loved her family and friends.  She loved growing flowers and plants. These were her favorite things to pass the time.  

In addition to her parents, Winona was preceded in death by a son, Robert Hunt; sister, Annette Walton Jones; grandparents Haywood and Carrie Atkins Hunt; great grandmother, Cleo Atkins; aunts, Doris Hunt, Shirley Byrd and Mammie Golden; and uncles, William “Bo” (Ronda) Hunt, Roy (Sarah) Grant, Ralph Hunt, Jimmy “Baby” Hunt, Amos Hunt, Cordial Hunt and Zelma Hunt.

Winona leaves behind a loving family who will forever hold her memory dear: Samuel (Hazel) Hunt; Jack (Charlotte) Hunt; Kassey Rawls; Samuel Erick Hunt; Zandra Hunt; Hunter (Kay) Thompson; a special friend, Tommy Evans; along with other relatives and friends.  

Heartfelt appreciation to the devoted staff and friends at The Greens at Hickory, where Winona resided for the past two years.

Winona’s light will continue to shine in the hearts of those who knew her. Her memory will forever be a blessing.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Saint Paul African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, South Center Street, Hickory, North Carolina. Family Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.  at the church. Reverend I. Melvin Peay, Pastor and Officiating.
