Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of your families Mariarch Nema. I know she will be sorely missed.
I will cherish the shared family memories of many Indian ceremonies, street dances, rodeos, and fairs.
Most especially I remember all the good times spent with family and friends at Nema's warm and welcoming home. The smell of frybread cooking will always take me back to Nema's kitchen!
May the love and support of all that are gathered today comfort you now and...

Wynema's Obituary

Wynema Hickox Thom Markusson passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday November 2, 2010 following a lengthy illness.She was born on August 8, 1935 to William and Louise Johnson Hickox near Somes Bar, California. She married Jetty Thom Sr. and they had five children together. A member of the Karuk Tribe she enjoyed participating in traditional ceremonies and outdoor activities including camping, fishing and hunting. Known affectionately as Muffy to her closest family members, Wynema was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. She will be remembered for her passion for dancing and loving ways. Her wish was also to be remembered for being as crazy as ever and laughing with joy. Wynema is survived by her children, Barbara Jackson of San Luis Obispo, Gerald Machen of Redding, Patricia Hobbs, Evelyn (Charles) Lindsay and Carol Thom of Yreka, Jetty Thom Jr., Jessie Thom and Everett (Sylvia) Thom of Etna and Barbara Wray of Medford, Oregon. In addition she leaves 21 grandchildren; Tyvin Whittaker of Charlevoix Michigan, Kelly Whittaker of Ukiah, Carissa Jackson of San Luis Obispo, Brian Ainsworth, Gregory and Matthew Hobbs of Yreka, Chastity Thom and Erik (Aiko) Rose of Etna, Shaun Lindsay Jr. and Ryan Lindsay of Yreka, Jessica (James) Courts of Fort Jones, Wayne and Jefferson Courts of Yreka, Michael Grant of Eureka, Andria Thom of Wasilla, Alaska, Everett Thom Jr. of Yreka, Christopher Thom, Robert Thom, and Brandon "Bam Bam" Thom of Etna, David Wray of Medford, Oregon, and Michael Yniguez of Yreka. She also leaves 18 great grandchildren. Her sister-in-law, Virginia Thom of Yreka and brother-in-law, Charles Thom Sr. of Quartz Valley also survive her. She "adopted" many individuals over the years as family members and was especially fond of Matt Douglas and Luanna Hillman of Orleans. Survivors also include numerous nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.She was predeceased by her parents William and Louise Johnson Hickox, husbands Jetty Thom Sr. (1981) and Edward Markusson (1997), granddaughter Tamara Thom (1997), stepdaughters Jetty Rae Whittaker and Simone Barger, sisters Mildred Donahue, Wilma Myers and her twin Wynoma Harrison (2005); brothers Hobart Hickox, Arthur Hickox and Delmar Hickox. A memorial service will be held on Saturday November 6, 2010 at 2:00 pm in Girdner's Funeral Chapel at 202 S Oregon St in Yreka, California followed by burial in the Fort Jones Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Valley Oaks Hall in Greenview, California. Girdner's Funeral
