Battle Creek

Betty J. Clark, age 83, of Battle Creek, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2015. She was born June 14, 1932 in Turney, Missouri the daughter of Harry B. and Nora Alice (Hiatt) Clark. Betty was a 1950 graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School, graduated from Western Michigan University in 1960 with a Bachelor Degree in Education and went on to earn her Master Degree in Education from Western Michigan University. Betty taught in the Harper Creek Community Schools from 1960 until her retirement in 1986 at both Wattles Park and Harper Creek Junior High. She was a member of AARP, MARSP and MEAR.

Surviving are her partner of 65 years: Silver Lee Garske of Battle Creek; two nieces: Margot Lee Bemer of Mattawan and Donna (Jack) Patterson of Kalamazoo; nephew: Joe Bemer of Allegan; sister: Nora Maxine Eckler and brother: Donald Leroy Clark both of Kalamazoo. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister: Margaret Clark Bemer and two brothers: Charles Maurice Clark and Harry Clark Jr.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. today at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday September 9, 2015 at the Funeral Home with Pastor Jeanie Kucks officiating and interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Following the interment service a reception will be held for those attending. Memorial contributions may be given to The Food Bank of South Central Michigan. www.henryfuneralhome.org

Miss Clark was one of those teachers you just never forgot. And she never forgot who we were either. God comfort her family and Ms Garske at this difficult time.

Miss Clark was my 7th grade teacher at Wattles Park. I had Mono and missed 2 months of school she would come to my house bring my homework and help me on her own time. I will always appreciate her what she did for me and many others.
