Robert Smith Obituary

Robert Lee Smith died peacefully on May 29, 2021. Bobby was 79. Survived by wife of 43 years, Kathy Means Smith, and 5 children: Rachel Laiche (Dixon), Dr. Robert Smith II (Susy), Christen Watt (Craig), Rebecca Thurlow (Micah) and Travis Smith (Anna); his 15 grandchildren Raymond, Wyatt, and Sarah Laiche; Brynne, Asher, Austin, and Ryland Smith; Taylor and Davin Watt, Joel, Andrew and James Thurlow; Josiah, Samuel and Caleb Smith. He is also survived by his sister Marianne Henderson (Rudd), and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and Travis Smith, and grandson, William Robert Thurlow.

Bobby was born July 8, 1941, in Oklahoma City, OK. He attended the University of Texas at Austin and served in the Army before receiving his J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law. After practicing law for 50 years, he retired in 2018. Known to many as the Prince of Real Estate, Bobby was a diligent advocate for his clients, an enthusiastic mentor to many, and always ready use his professional skills to help someone in need. Coming to a deeper faith in later years, he loved singing in the choir at The Woodlands United Methodist Church and serving in various ways. Bobby always had a song on his lips and wanted to know if you were having a lovely day. He lives on in our hearts, and his quips and phrases are never far from our lips.

Memorial service will be on Thursday, June 10, at 2:00 pm at The Woodlands United Methodist Church, 2200 Lake Woodlands Dr, The Woodlands, TX 77380.

My dearest Kathy,
Thinking of you . . .
Will always remember Bobby's laugh, smile and prankster jokes beginning with the Oppenheimer, Rosenberg days to the last time we spoke last year. He touched others in beautiful ways. A local attorney with a world-class mind. His legacy will never be forgotten.

The love that you and Bobby shared was an inspiration to us all. My most sincere condolences.

A wonderful man. I enjoyed knowing Bobby as a member of two of our church choirs. Sitting next to him was entertaining in itself. He was my sponsor for my Emmaus Walk. Sunday night men’s choir rehearsal will not be the same. He will be missed.

My deepest heartfelt sympathy to Kathy and the family. I worked with Bobby as his legal secretary from 10/81 to 4/84. Many thanks to him for teaching me a lot about real estate law which I continued to use until I retired in 2014 - having worked in the legal field for nearly fifty years. Most sincerely - Sandra Bomer Doyle

We enjoyed knowing Bobby both in our Sunday School class and the chancel choir. It was fun having him sit behind us in choir because he was always so friendly and cheerful. We will miss him!
