Oh Mary...one of The sweetest ladies I have ever met. I worked for Mary 20 years ago at her restaurant Geannelis's. She put her heart and soul into everything she did. She Worked morning until nite. And would give her shirt off her back to anybody in need. She will be forever missed by many. Rest peacefully Mary

I send my sincere sympathy to Mary's children and family. In the 80s I worked with Mary on many projects at the Bennington Museum. She was larger than life in all the right ways! So much energy and real caring went into her work. She and I also shared a Mediterranean outlook on life -- love of family, culture and heritage.

Some years ago when I worked at the Shea Insurance Agency, Geannelis' Restaurant was directly across the street from the office. I remember especially on many a Friday evening I would have my mom meet me and we would have dinner at the restaurant. Mary Geannelis never failed to come over to our table and say hello and ask us how we were. A very nice and gracious lady is how I will fondly think of her. My condolences to Peter and his family.

Pam, Peter and Nikki,
My sympathy on the loss of your beautiful mother. Mary has always held a special place in my heart from the time I was a teenager and she would offer rides to me whenever she saw me walking up the hill to Old Bennington. We had many wonderful talks about life. She was one of the kindest women I ever met and I always felt fortunate if I was able to see her when I traveled through Bennington. She was a source of inspiration to all who knew her. I wish you all peace duringthis time of healing and transition.

Mary,
I have known you since I was a little girl and my mom would bring me to the fruit stand on Main Street. Then I worked for Richard for many years in Geannelis. When I became an adult and had a daughter of my own you treated her the loving and caring way that you always treated me. RIP sweet lady. You will be missed. Love you,

Dear Nikki,Pam & Peter
Mary's passing is a loss for all who ever had the pleasure of knowing her. She was a gentle force that made Bennington a wonderful town. I always called her the Queen of Bennington. She gave her time & energy to everything she did. My dad was so proud of her when she became the first woman on the board of directors with the Bennington Savings & Loan. She went to do so many other wonderful things. She had a way of making anyone who ever had the pleasure of knowing her feel like family. She will look over us. She was truly one of a kind. She will be missed.I will miss her spirit, smile and unending love. She will never be forgotten.

Pam, Peter, and Nikki - You have my deepest sympathy for the loss of such a wonderful mother. My parents thought the world of her and I credit her for saving the MAUHS music program when it was threatened due to budget cuts back in the 1970s. As I mentioned to a friend yesterday, I know there is a Heaven because where else would Mary be?

Your mom was a wonderful woman. Generous, kind, witty and a strong advocate for the MAUHS Music Department's students. My mother thought the world of her and whenever I visited Bennington I would make an effort to call her.
You all must have wonderful memories of her. Leo Buscaglia said memories are like roses so when sad things happen we can gather them and remember.
When I returned from Europe I remember telling Mary about performing in the Sistine Chapel and in Notre Dame Cathedral. I sang on the spot where Joan of Arc was knighted and Napoleon took his crown from the Pope. She encouraged me along with Florence to go to Tanglewood to sing the following year.
When I sing at mass this week, I will say a special prayer for her and your family. May God grant you the joy of many roses to remember her by. She was always so proud of you all.
Sto Bene!

From my me and my family in Peabody and Las Vegas, we are very saddened by her passing. She was vibrant, fun and always a great hostess. Over the years we looked forward to our visits and the great memories of those times in our lives, with her and family, will never die. They are almost surreal. My dad, Rigas, is the last surviving sibling and if he could travel, he would be have been there. God bless you Auntie!

Mary was one of the sweetest, most caring people that I've known. When I worked at Geannelis' Restaurant as a teenager, I loved when Mary would come into the restaurant, she would greet everyone with a smile and she had such a joyful spirit about her! It was also an honor to have her serve as a board member for Bennington Savings and Loan (The Bank of Bennington). Mary will be greatly missed. My deepest condolence to her family.

I will always remember Mary and her family. My car spun off the road into their yard in a snow storm. Mary's family not only took me and my, then baby, son into their home but also, righted my car so could continue on our way. Their kindness has been an example for me ever since.
