George Deets Obituary

George Henry Deets, IV EAST DORSET, VT George Henry Deets IV, beloved son of Cynthia L. MacDonald and George H. Deets III, died in an automobile accident Sunday, March 6, 2011. George was born in Rutland, Vt., and attended The Dorset School and Burr and Burton Academy, graduating in 2009. While at BBA, George played varsity soccer and was a member of the championship lacrosse team. He was loved by the faculty and his classmates for his omnipresent, infectious smile, his generous spirit and laughter that he brought to each of his classes. He shall always be remembered for the celebratory graduation trip to St. John's and most recently to Lake Tahoe, a special time with his friends in the beautiful outdoors. The highlight of his travels was a trip to Germany, where he made many wonderful friends and lifelong memories. George was enrolled at Paul Smith's College of the Adirondacks, N.Y., where he was studying Culinary Arts. George was inspired in his studies by his mentors at The Chantecleer Restaurant in East Dorset, where he worked for many years. He also worked at Simply Gourmet, Lake Placid, New York during his college days at Paul Smith's. George was an avid hunter and fisherman all of his life and he was most passionate about being in the mountains of Vermont. George was known by all of his father's friends for his impeccable hunter's ethics and loved to be in the woods with them, as well as his favorite companion, his Dad. He even took a trapping course. He also enjoyed snowboarding, hiking, and spending time on the family boat on Lake Champlain. He loved camping under the stars with his best buddies. George was predeceased by his paternal grandparents and maternal grandfather. George's indomitable spirit will live on in the hearts, minds and deeds of all those who loved him: He is survived by his loving sister, Kileen, brother Daniel (Kami) his maternal grandmother Trudy and step-grandfather Dick Myers, his aunts and uncles Lori Parker (Chriss), Deb MacDonald (Amanda Mason), Amy MacDonald (Scott Slager), nephew, Devin and his cousins, Caity, Sarah and Hannah Parker, and his countless friends all over the world who George deeply touched in his all too brief life. FUNERAL NOTICE: A service celebrating the life of this special young man will be held at the First Congregational Church in Manchester, Vt. on Sunday, March 13 at 2 p.m. There will be a reception following the service at The Inn at Willow Pond. The family is planning to honor George by supporting youth hunting programs in Vermont. Donations can be made to The George H. Deets IV Memorial Fund, care of: Beth Watson Berkshire Bank PO Box 1567 Manchester Ctr., VT. 05255. Brewster Funeral Service in Manchester has been entrusted with the care of George's funeral arrangements.

Dick and George

March 10, 2011

George, Cindy and family... there is nothing that can be said to take away your grief, but you should know that Dick and I both feel tremendous sorrow at your loss. We remember with great amusement watching as a then 13 your old George struggled to carry two huge cat fish down the docks, each nearly as long as his very lanky legs. He would stop, rest and let the fish sag before resuming what, for him at that time, was a very very long walk. He has already survived in our memories. Dick and George
