Born in Williamstown on Feb. 10, 1958, son of Richard O. Rouse Jr. of Williamstown and the late Peggie Gates Rouse, he was a 1976 graduate of Mount Greylock Regional High School, where he played soccer and was on the track team.
He earned a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Williams College in 1981. In 1985, he entered the apprentice boat building program at The Maine Maritime Museum in Bath.
At the time of his death, he was employed at Small Point Marine in Bath, Maine. After college, he worked in sports sales and then joined the staff of The Paul Revere House in Boston. While at the Maritime Museum, he repaired, maintained and sailed its fleet of antique ships. For many summers, he served on the crew of The American Eagle, a schooner.
He later worked at Six River Marine in Yarmouth, Maine.
Besides his father and stepmother, Regina M. Rouse of Williamstown, he leaves two brothers, Robert David Rouse of New York City and Richard O. Rouse III of Seattle, and a sister, Linda Gates Rouse of Albuquerque, N.M.
