William Elworthy Obituary

William Elworthy 1922 - 2008 PITTSFIELD William J. Elworthy, 86, formerly of 50 Valentine Road and Sugar Hill Assisted Living, died Monday, June 9, 2008 at Craneville Place in Dalton, where he had resided for the past week. Born in Pittsfield on March 16, 1922, son of William and Anna McCarty Elworthy, he was a 1946 graduate of Pittsfield High School. An Air Force veteran of World War II, he served as a pilot. Mr. Elworthy was employed as a district manager for New England Telephone for over 30 years, retiring in 1976. He was a communicant of St. Mark's Church, and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. His wife, the former Lillian M. Hall, whom he married April 19, 1947, died Feb. 28, 2007. He leaves a daughter, Leslie M. Mickle of Pittsfield; two sons, Richard P. Elworthy of Lenox and Mark E. Elworthy of Pittsfield; a brother, Robert Elworthy of Florida; three sisters, Betty Ross of Great Barrington, Rosemary Paris of Cape Cod and Joan Smith of Hinsdale, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE: Services for William J. Elworthy will be private and at a later date at St. Michael the Archangel Mausoleum in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Services of Western Massachusetts in care of DWYER FUNERAL HOME, 776 North St., which is in charge of arrangements.

We have such wonderful and warm memories of Bill, Lillian and Annie! Bill was always willing to lend a helping hand, walk with a smile and had the energy of an 18 yr. old! He left us such a legacy of what a "GOOD NEIGHBOR" truly meant. He will be missed always - Love, Kris, Dan, Brigid, Brendan, Lamar, Hoban and Fritz
