Harold "Casey" Stengl

1938 - 2015 HINSDALE Harold J. "Casey" Stengl, 76 of Alice Dr., passed away suddenly at his home on Friday, May 8, 2015. Born in Pittsfield on June 2, 1938, the son of the late Harold J. and Doris C. (LaCasse) Stengl. He graduated from the old Dalton High School in 1956, then entered the Army's 94th infantry division. He later received his Associate's degree in Program Business Administration from Berkshire Community College. Casey was employed by the former Sprague Electric company in North Adams from 1967 to 1986 during his tenure with them he served as foreman, general foreman, warehouse superintendent and finally as operation manager. From there he was employed as the distribution manager for Subaru of New England based in Norwood, MA. After his return to the area, Casey worked part time as the assessor for both the towns of Hinsdale and Peru. He also worked part-time doing various maintenance jobs for the Hinsdale Town Hall. He enjoyed working on the town of Dalton's town clock. He completely restored the clock both in 1976 for Dalton Bi-Centennial and again in 2001, providing it with a new hand painted gold leaf face. He was an active member of the Hard Hat Charitable Foundation. He loved his dog, Baxter, a white Samoyed Husky who would travel with him everywhere.After Baxter passed he got a new dog, Spike, who was by his side when he died. Casey was an avid New York Yankee Fan. He helped in establishing the Dalton Bantam baseball League in 1970 for kids too young to play Little League. In his younger years he was an avid bowler, playing in many leagues at Ken's Bowl. Casey is survived by his children; Kim Sarmuk and her husband, Peter and their children, Casey & Robert of East Berlin, CT, Chas Stengl and his wife, Cheryl and their children, Ryan & Kevin of Dalton, MA, Steve Stengl and his children, Whitney & Hanna of Dalton, Cynthia Tucker and her husband, Scott and their children, Lindsay, Scott, Mark, and Wyatt of Hinsdale, MA, great-grandchildren, Jack Walton and Harper Sullivan, sister, Lynn Cone and her husband, Bill of York, ME, brother-in-law, Paul Derby of Dalton as well as many nieces and nephews. He also leaves his best and friend, Tammy Harris Gerwaski, whom made sure to check in on him every day and considered him her guardian angel. He was predeceased by his sister, Christine (Stengl) Derby. FUNERAL NOTICE: Graveside services for Casey Stengl will be private and at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the BARTLETT WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME in Dalton. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to The Eleanor Sonsini Animal Shelter in care of the funeral home, 525 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226.
