It's hard to believe it has been almost a year since Jay's passing. I think of him often, remembering how he was determined to bring art, fun art, to Tampa and the surrounding communities. My husband Bob and I sponsored many of his projects, but among my favorite is the mural he arranged to be painted on the side of Fox's Hardware, located at the corner of Gunn Hwy and Mobley Road. Like Jay's spirit, that mural has endured. And it reminds me of the positive, enthusiastic, and kind person he was. I drive by it several times a week on my way home, and every time I see it, I smile and fondly remember Jay.

Somehow my condolence note did not appear with the painting under Peter and Jill Stilton. That painting was done while working with Jay for the first time on the Big Art Show at Tampa Airport. Every day I see it several times and think of how much fun we had working with him. His smile and joy were and are and always will be contagious!!
Know how difficult a time this is for his family, but I just know he is continuing to bless those around him (especially the artists) and that is such a wonderful quality to express eternally.
Again much love from all the Stiltons- Jill and Peter

I love you ❤
Speechless for now
This was a painting which Peter did for Jay's Big Art Show project at the Tampa Airport. We enjoy it daily and always think about Jay's zest for life!

Jay and I worked together for many years. I remember when he moved into the nonprofit sector and I followed him for years after that. He was a friend and an inspiration. He truly will be missed.

A lovely poem Jay's Aunt Rochelle read at his funeral service:
There Are Stars
(Yeish Kocharim)
Hannah Senesh
There are stars up above,
So far away we only see their light
Long, long after the star itself is gone.
And so it is with people that we loved -
Their memories keep shining ever brightly
Though their time with us is done.
But the stars that light up the darkest night,
These are the lights that guide us.
As we live our days, these are the ways we remember.
One of many happy days together.

I can't remember when we first met, but it's been a very long time. Jay was always upbeat, optimistic, happy and generous. He never let the turkeys get him down. He created and sponsored so many arts programs that will forever decorate the Bay Area and beyond. He believed in the impossible and and lived life to the fullest. So many happy memories. I will sorely miss my friend, Jay.

Jay will live in my heart and memory always. Through my attemt to encourage him .. and keep him hopeful... during this struggle to recover.. I quickly learned that his positive outlook on life.. and the joy he brought to others would be remembered during any struggles I may have, or friends and family in the future. He will be my inspiration to remain positive during hard times. His smile is what I remember.. it was always there. Carol Rice

Jay was extraordinary. A kind person who wanted to make the world better through art. I created projects outside of my comfort zone because Jay believed in me. We always shared travel stories and creative ideas. I will miss Jay dearly. Rest In Peace, my friend.

I am honored to have known Jay. He was a pioneer of accessible art in the Tampa Bay Area, and made us all more aware of the important role art can play in the community. He was a lovely guy, with a happy, playful presence. He will be so missed.

It was a true gift to be there when Jay passed, even though we weren't close for the last years. Jay was one of a kind. I still remember when we met in college when Jay was 19 and a freshman at USF. He always knew who he was and wasn't willing to be anyone but himself. He lived his life, not another's. Rest in peace brother. We love you!

I met Jay in 2002, through Silas Beach. I really admired him. I participated in the Chairs for Chairity. He really encouraged me as an artist. He was vivacious, innovative, charming, funny, quirky among other great characteristics. I have a lot of fun memories with him throughout that decade. He will be truly missed by those who knew him. Rest in Peace Jay.

You were an eternal fountain of creativity and optimism! You were one of the first to bring "outdoor art" to Tampa, which brought joy and happiness to so many in our community. I will always remember you and the incredible projects you created over the 20 years of our friendship. I will miss your smile, your positive spirit, and your creative influence. I know many others in our community have heavy hearts, too, knowing you no longer are part of our lives. Wishing your family comfort during this sad, sad time.
