Deborah, Kate and Amelia,
I will always be grateful to Bill for generously welcoming into your home when I needed help. He was always so kind and loving toward me. He will be missed.
With much love to you,
Melanie

Deborah,
Bill was our go-to-guy for all things Hotchkiss - unbelievably generous with his resources when it came to anything to do with that school or our class. The news of his passing was just so very sad. The. World will seem a rougher place without Bill’s graceful presence in it.
I do have a feel for what you’re going through, having just lost my wife of 46 years last August, after her 8 year battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Before she died I thought I knew where I was in the grieving process and made predictions of what I’d feel when she went. Some of that I got right, but there was plenty I got wrong. It is just such a confusing and unbalanced time.
Then an acquaintance, who had lost her husband 9 years ago, reached out to me. Those subsequent conversations with someone who had already been there were truly helpful. It was nice to learn I wasn’t crazy, and it was interesting to see the commonalities and differences in our experiences. Most of all, it was good to know I wasn’t alone.
If you like, I would be happy to pay forward what she gave me, and you should feel free to contact me at any time. If, however, you are of a more literary bent, take a look at Joan Didion’s “Year of Magical Thinking “, about her experiences after her husband’s death.
Take good care, Deborah. I wish you the best.
