HELEN DUNN Obituary

DUNN, Helen Gertrude 93 of Falmouth, died Thursday, July 25, 2016 surrounded by members of her family. She was the devoted wife of the late Leo J. Dunn and mother of their six children. Born in Cambridge, MA on October 2, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Cecilia and George T. O'Brien.

Helen was employed in a government project at MIT during World War II and while there received a letter of commendation from President Truman. At MIT she met her future husband Leo, who was attending the MIT Sloan School of Management. They were married in 1951, resided in West Roxbury and together they had six children. Helen dedicated her life to raising her children and enjoyed their achievements and was involved in all their activities. Helen worked for years in the Registrar's Office at Boston College. Later following her passion for antiques Helen opened the Cotuit Shop in Cotuit MA. After retirement Helen and Leo operated a bed and breakfast, "By the Sea" in their home at the entrance of Falmouth Harbor.

Helen attended Cambridge High and Latin and the later on graduated from Boston College with BA degree in 1989.

She was involved in many clubs and organizations that centered around her children, her faith and community. Helen loved spending time on the beach, swimming, golfing, doing crossword puzzles, and socializing with friends and her large extended family. She had a sharp mind and was an engaging storyteller to the end.

Her family will remember her as a caring and loving mother. She was social and engaging and made many friends. She loved to smile and brightened the day of everyone she met. Helen is survived by her sons and daughters, Kevin and Jeanne Dunn of Falmouth and Belmont, MA; Mark and Kathy Dunn of Duxbury, MA; Leo Dunn and Betsy Alden of Dover, MA; Brian and Mary Dunn of Watertown, MA; Maureen Dunn-Packer and Robert Packer of Jamestown, RI; and Patricia O'Kane of Locust Valley, NY. She is also survived by many loved grandchildren and great grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her sister Cecilia A.Bryant, and brothers George T. O'Brien, Robert D. O'Brien and Edward J. O'Brien; her son-in-law, Denis J. O'Kane; and her granddaughter Alison Dunn-Packer.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 30 from 4-7 p.m. at the Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, FALMOUTH, MA. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 31, at St. Thomas Chapel, Falmouth Heights Road, Falmouth, MA with a family eulogy beginning at 9:45 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at the VA National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
