FREDERICK GREENE Obituary

GREENE, Frederick Jr. Age 61 of Newton, passed away March 3, 2020 after a short battle with cancer. Fred was the beloved husband & best friend of Patty (Walsh) Greene and devoted father of Annie & Freddie, III, both still of Newton. He also leaves sisters Barbra Robison & Teresa Morris, in-laws Thomas & Ann Walsh, Milton, dear brother-in-law Tommy Walsh (Hiroe), Quincy. He also leaves other beloved family members, including Patrick & Recie Flaherty, Quincy, Danny & Edel Flaherty, Milton & Margie Zywicz, CA and many awesome nieces & nephews. AND a world full of friends. Fred was born in Boston and grew up in Brookline, where he was a three sport varsity athlete and his class speaker, & spent summers in Onset. Fred attended Cornell University, where he played football & lacrosse and graduated from UMass Boston. Fred spent 6 years as a Merchant Marine, traveling the world, then had a 25 year career with the Boston Globe before working as a Commercial Realtor with CRG of Newton. Fred was an avid sports fan (Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics) and spent much time skiing, golfing, boating and fishing when not coaching or watching his children's many sports activities. Fred was known for his genuine and abiding kindness; there wasn't a person he met that didn't feel his warmth and gracious spirit. Fred found joy in every day of his life. He relished his time on Martha's Vineyard, where they vacationed each summer with dear friends, as well as the family home on Lake Winnipesaukee. Fred's greatest love was his family. There will be a Mass at 12PM on March 14, 2020 at Our Lady Help of Christians, 573 Washington St., Newton, MA 02458. Arr. by Magni FH, NEWTON.

Fred Jr. and my son played on a great Babe Ruth All-Star team together. During one of the games Fred and I pretended to be the commentators with southern accents all the while eating a huge bag of peanuts, laughing all the while, and leaving a pile of shells in the stands. As I’ve said before, my experiences with Fred were few, but they usually included a lot of laughing. When I think of him, I smile.

Say it ain't so,Man say it ain't so.
Although, I hadn't seen my friend Frederico
since the 80's; he was always in my heart.
I met him the first day of 5th grade at Devotion.
You'll never find a more nicer and talented man.
To the Greene family I truly feel your loss.
Rest in peace Gumball

Dear Patty, Annie and Fred,

My deepest sympathies and thoughts are with you all. Fred was so lovely and welcoming and warm. His smile illuminated the room and when you were with him you knew there would be joy. I was deeply fond of him as was my John. John always kept a picture of Fred fishing and considered him a dear friend. Many cherished memories filled with laughter of gatherings with Fred sharing his culinary skills; he was such a gracious host. I know his abundant love for you and infectious spirit to live well and be kind to all will be with you always. Never to be forgotten. Much love to you.

I've known Fred since grade school at the Edward Devotion School.
He was always the "Friend to all".
Everyone liked Freddie.
A star athlete, and smart too!

He could walk into a room and bring smiles to people just by his presence.

He was well loved by all.
And especially his loving family.

My deepest condolences to the Greene family on his passing.

May his photos and warm smile bring back wonderful memories for you.

Keep him in your heart, he will always be with you.

See you again in Heaven one day my friend.

Fred was one of my best friends at BHS.If one word described Fred it was Enthusiasm.
Fred was ready to try anything even trying out for freshman hockey when he had never played hockey before!Who does that?I have been able to keep in touch with Fred over the years and his optimistic and positive personality never changed from the day he left Brookline.I was lucky to see him after Thanksgiving and I am thankful for that last big hug from my friend.

I am so sad to hear of the passing of my dear friend, Freddy! I've known him since grammar school, and connected with him often throughout the years. What a gentle, kind and loving soul. I know his beloved family is grieving. Class of 1976 is, too. BHS reunions will never be the same.
