EVELYN SHEFFRES Obituary

SHEFFRES, Evelyn "Evi" A. Age 91, passed away peacefully, on August 7, 2025, in Carlsbad, CA, with her sons by her side. Born in Providence, RI, Evi was the youngest child of Barney and Ida Buckler. A trailblazer, she graduated from Brandeis University in 1955, during its inaugural years and remained an active alumna throughout her life. Later, she earned a master's degree in art therapy from Lesley College. A gifted artist, specializing in enamel, Evi's work was showcased in galleries and exhibitions across New England, Texas, and California, where she lived over the years. She received commissions from Brandeis University and Temple Beth Abraham in Nashua, NH, and co-founded Depot Square Artists in Lexington, MA. Her artistic legacy endures through her vibrant creations. Beyond her art, Evi was a dedicated teacher, led the Art & Crafts program at Camp Tel Noar for many years, volunteered with numerous organizations, and owned and managed a leather shop in Santa Barbara. Family was Evi's heart. She cherished time with her children, grandchildren, and extended relatives, making holidays unforgettable as the beloved matriarch. Married to Ezra, her love of 40 years, until his passing, they lived in Framingham and Lexington, MA, Nashua, NH, Santa Barbara, CA, Boerne, TX and Stockholm, Sweden. They retired to Wellfleet, Cape Cod, where Evi volunteered with the Council on Aging and the local thrift shop. In her later years, she moved to a retirement community in Carlsbad, CA, where she forged new friendships and embraced new experiences. An avid adventurer, Evi loved traveling the world. Some of her more memorable trips included a safari in Africa and reinforcing her Jewish faith in Israel. Evi was predeceased by her brother, Marty; and her longtime companion, Eddie Manganiello. She is survived by her sons, Bob (Karen) and Carl (Nancy); her grandchildren, Sam, Michelle, Jacob, Erica, and Ben; her great-grandson, Ezra; her nieces and nephews, Susan, Steven, Patty Rose, Lynn, Sue, Karen, and Stacy; and her cherished exchange "daughter," Tina Forjaz, from Portugal. Her many friends will deeply miss her. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made by check to: Mass Audubon, c/o the "Ezra and Evelyn Sheffres Memorial Day Camp Scholarship" at 208 South Great Road, Lincoln, MA 01773 or a charity of your choice.

My condolences to the family. She was a dear friend as well as a college classmate. We travelled extensively after our love ones passed. I will miss her smiling face and frequent phone calls. My best to her family.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Evie´s passing. We were related on the Buckler side, but neither of us knew exactly how. We connected during her Wellfleet years. I hope the support of your family and friends will provide you with strength and comfort during this difficult time.
