I met Harriet in 1977 in Boston after having met her daughter Beth working in Switzerland. Beth told me to look up her mother when I got to Boston. While Beth stayed in Paris and then traveled the grape harvest, I returned to the states and looked up Harriet at her workplace, M.I.T. Saw her 'floating forks' we joked, on display at M.I.T. and we hung out now and again in her studio or local pubs. I, a woman in her mid-20's and Harriet, a woman of great vision, independence, creativity and more. She showed me her work, talked her ideas for her projects, I shared my efforts at writing poetry, we talked feminism, we cavorted; she was quite amazing and an influence. We shared some of the brilliance of the fresh light of women's freedom--and some of the shadows of our own lives as women of different generations-- till I left for the west coast. All in all I'm left with the brilliance of her. I will never forget Harriet, who was an incredible role model as a creative independent woman. And I thank Beth for her friendship back then, and for encouraging me to find her mother. My condolences to Beth and Karen and their families.

Dear Cousins,
So sad to hear this news. The end of a family generation. I always remember Aunt Harriet as a loving, lively pioneer. Very proud to call her my great aunt.
Love to all,
