Davis Carroll Obituary

CARROLL, Davis Of Boston, on February 22, 2011, died from complications of injuries sustained after being hit by a car. Carroll graduated from Massachusetts College of Art and soon began his career as a painter. A member of the Copley Society of Boston, the American Watercolor Society, and the Boston Watercolor Society, he was well known for his artwork. His paintings featured the distinctive landscapes, gardens, houses, and street scenes of classic New England locales such as Marblehead and Boston. Mastering a unique technique of painting in watercolors on rice paper, Carroll portrayed Yankee clipper ship models, flowers, and antiques that represented regional life. His work was widely exhibited in the Northeast and Florida. In addition to exhibiting his art, he was a dedicated teacher with many loyal students. After residing in Natick for many years, in later life Carroll resided in Boston where he was a member of St. Cecilia's Church and an advocate for the Campaign for Human Rights and the AIDS Action Committee. He is survived by his children, Elizabeth, Alicia, and John Carroll, their spouses Ralph Letner, Robert Kulick, and Marci Aylward, grandchildren Dorothea and Caroline Letner and Alexandra Kulick, his sister Joyce Mulcahy, many nieces and nephews, and his long-time companion, Robert Glazier. A memorial service will be held in June and donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts, 75 Amory Street, Boston, MA 02119. Arrangements entrusted to the care of the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park St. (at Natick Common) NATICK. A beautiful water color," Peonies and Lilacs in Cousin Rita's Panda Bowl," was the first piece of fine art my husband and I bought at a gallery in Marblehead more than 30 years ago. It has hung in my house ever since, and given us great pleasure. I am so sorry to learn of Mr. Carroll's tragic death. His work was delicate and elegant and I loved it.

I am very saddened to have just heard the news of davis's passing. He was a gifted artist, trustworthy friend, hysterically funny, but more than that... he was a super listener and good friend. He helped me with his maturity, and gave me guidance at one of my lowest points. I am saddened to here this news. Sorry this is so late... as I fell out of touch. My deepest sympathies.

I just learned of Davis' passing and was very saddened. I met Davis at the Jesuit Urban Center around 1989 and treasured his sense of humor. I was a guest in his home and travelled to Ogunquit with him. He was a talented artist. I met some of his family in Osterville. I have lost a special friend.

I worked with Davis at Quinn & Johnson in the late 60's. When I got married he gave me a picture as a present and it has hung over our bed for 43 years. He was a very gentle spirit who always willingly shared his wisdom with a young girl trying to make her way in the world of advertising. I am glad I knew him.
My condolences to all.

We were so fortunate to have exhibited Davis's work for over 25 years in our gallery, but better yet, to have known this wonderful person over this time. We were late in getting word of his passing, but had spoken with him by phone after his accident, and he was still trying his best to satisfy his many collectors by accepting inquiries and looking toward the future. He was one of the kindest human beings that we have ever worked with. We will always remember his calm, friendly personality, and his wonderful outlook on the world. We'll miss him.

GOD SAW YOU GETTING TIRED Unknow Author

GOD saw you getting tired,
and a cure was not to be.
So GOD wrapped his arms around you,
and whispered, "Come to me."
With tearful eyes we watched you
and saw you pass away
and although we love you dearly
we could not make you stay.
A Golden heart stopped beating
When GOD gave you rest .
GOD's garden must be beautiful;
because
He only takes the best.

My very deepest condolences to his family.
Davis my dearest friend in the whole world, I'll miss you so!!

I was sorry to hear of Mr. Davis' unexpected passing. I did not know him, but I remember him painting a lovely portrait of my mother in 1965. My sister has it hanging in her house. Our prayers go out to his family.

I think what I will miss most about Uncle Dave is hearing him laugh as he would throw his head back. Uncle Dave always had a twinkle in his eye and appreciated life. He had a unique relationship with my mother, they seemed to understand each other and appreciate each others gift of art. He definitely left his mark on this world and we shall miss him.

What a sad shock to hear about Davis's passing. I enjoyed many years knowing Davis and laughing from his wonderful sense of humor. I enjoyed taking classes and also representing his art work. He will surely be missed. I will cherish the artwork I own by Davis. His memory will live on through the beauty he has left in the art world.
