KENNETH CSAPLAR Obituary

Csaplar, Kenneth A.
Kenneth Androvett Csaplar was born on May 8, 1956 in Seattle, Washington. The second son of Richard Csaplar, Jr. and Joan Androvett Csaplar, he was named for his grandfather, Edward Kenneth Androvett. He lived his early childhood in Seattle, Philadelphia and Baldwin, NY. In 1966, Ken and his family moved to Needham, MA where he spent his formative years, attending the Broadmeadow School, the Pollard Middle School and Needham High School, where he distinguished himself on the varsity football team as a defensive end and offensive center. Soon after graduating from Needham High in 1974, Ken accompanied his family to Afghanistan where he worked as a teacher of English and Physical Education in the U.S. Embassy School. He travelled the world with his family on the way to and from Kabul. The year's experience had a profound impact on his life. Ken attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a BA in Economics in 1979. During the summer between his freshman and sophomore year of college he met Nancy Rigazio at a college bar in Boston. He spent the winter term of his sophomore year studying in London, while Nancy was studying in France. He married Nancy in July, 1979. Ken worked for Fidelity Bank in Philadelphia for three years while Nancy was in graduate school at the University of Pennnsylvania. He then got his MBA from the Johnson School of Management at Cornell in 1984 and returned to Boston to work at Brown Brothers Harriman for 13 years. While at Brown Brothers, Ken earned his MS in Taxation from Bentley College. He left Brown Brothers to start and lead Fleet Financial Group's Mergers and Acquisitions department, followed by two years as Co-director of Corporate finance at Arthur Andersen. Ken joined BDO Capital in 2002, where he became President in 2010 and remained for the rest of his life. He built his career on facilitating middle market mergers and acquisitions and developing close relationships with his clients, whom he loved. He enjoyed coaching and attending his sons' baseball, hockey, and football games and taking the family fishing on his boat in Boston Harbor and Nantucket Sound and on trips around the world. Ken was a member of the Union Club of Boston and the Winchester Country Club. He served on the Vestry of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Malden, MA and the Parish of the Epiphany, Winchester, MA. He was also a Trustee of the Institute for Christian Renewal, Plaistow, NH. Ken most loved his wife and two sons, Ken, Jr. and Dan. He was predeceased by his mother Joan A. Csaplar. He is also survived by his brothers Richard C. Csaplar III of Groton and Robert W. Csaplar and his wife Wendy of Needham, and many nieces and nephews. To the Csaplar family, I just was made aware of Ken's passing and traveled to Arizona yesterday. I am sorry to have missed his service as I have very fond memories of him. Ken helped me sell The Miller Company to a very difficult buyer. He made this situation far more pleasant and enjoyable by adding levity and humor which came so naturally to him. His quick mind and laser sharp responses were fun to be around. Ken will be missed by many and certainly not more so then by all of you. My most sincere prayers and thoughts are with all of you.

Dear Nancy,
I remembered something from years ago that I wanted to share with you. When Ken worked at BBH, reimbursement of expenses where issued by check to the employee. At Christmas time, Ken would come to the cashiers window with his checks in hand to cash and tell me that he held onto the checks so that he could buy his wife Nancy something special for Christmas. He stated that he used the expense checks so that you wouldn't know and it would be a surprise. I hope this brings a smile to your face in this time of sadness.
With Sympathies,

Dear Nancy, Kenneth and Daniel, Ralph and I just received the very sad news of Kenneth's passing. We remember so well the first time we met you in the nursey at the Parish of the Epiphany as we both weren't sure about leaving Kenneth and Matthew. We enjoyed our times together so much. Especially looking around and seeing you all at church. Please know that our hearts and prayers are with you. Paula & Ralph Dinneen

To Ken's Family,
I'm so sorry to hear of Ken's passing. I knew Ken when he worked at BBH years ago. He was the only guy that had arms long enough to reach over and open the cashiers cage door when we locked ourselves out! He was a good man and was always very helpful. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
