Obituary published on Legacy.com by Keefe Funeral Home - Arlington on Jan. 19, 2026.
Peter Benjamin Hobson passed away peacefully on Saturday January 17, 2026.
Born on August 27, 1937 in Medford MA, Peter was a man of faith and had long dedicated his time and energy to his church, serving on various committees and offering his expertise whenever called upon. Peter was a United States Air Force veteran and graduated from Northeastern University in 1973 with a degree in Industrial Technology. He had a long career in engineering and then later in life as a Director of Facilities Management.
A storyteller by nature, Peter loved sharing the stories of his youth where he spent much of his free time in nature, hiking the White Mountains, and summers fishing in the lake at his uncle's cabin on Lake Massasecum in Bradford NH. He was also a serious collector of jokes and took delight in making those around him laugh.
Peter had several long term volunteer positions with charitable organizations that were near and dear to his heart. He worked with his beloved pug Joseph as a therapy dog and trainer team with Caring Canines, where they went into hospitals, nursing homes, and elder care facilities to bring comfort and lightness to those who needed it. Music was also a lifelong joy and comfort for him. Peter was an active member of his church choir where he sang regularly until almost the very end. He was also very active in the Mishawum Choral Singers as well as Songs of Grace, a hospice and palliative care volunteer choral group who brought the gift of comfort and remembrance through music to those at the end of their journey. His family is certain that Peter is above discussing music arrangements and singing with heavenly choirs.
Peter is survived by his wife of almost 57 years, Joanne Hobson and his daughters Deborah Hobson and Donna Hobson, his grandson Carlos Antonio Benjamin Dias, and his sisters Susan Caruso and Kathryn Hobson as well as his sister-in-law Audrey Egan and several nieces and grand nieces and grand nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Harold Benjamin Hobson and Bertha Lacount Smart Hobson, his brother-in-laws John Caruso, Albert Egan, and Robert Freeman; and his nephews David Egan and Michael Egan.
