MARGARETT MCKEAN VERNON

Vernon, Margarett McKean
91, died peacefully on Sunday, September 8, 2013 at her home. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Margarett Sargent McKean and Q. A. Shaw McKean. Margarett's loving husband of 43 years, Stephen B. Vernon, predeceased her in 2009. Margarett, an expert gardener, was an active member of many garden organizations including the North Shore Garden Club (for 60 years) and the Garden Club of America. Her property was selected by the Garden Conservancy and the Massachusetts Horticultural Society among others, for special tours, and she received numerous awards for her accomplishments. Beloved by family and friends, Margarett was a wonderful hostess and cook who happily welcomed guests into her home. Always ready with a poem or a song, her creative and artistic spirit spilled forth blessing us all with her strong personality, beautiful voice, and lovely home and garden. Margarett is survived by her children, Jenny L. Reed of Tacoma Park, MD, Barclay H. Warburton of Newport R.I., Margarett R. Warburton of Annapolis, MD, Miranda Warburton of Los Gatos, CA, Rosemary Warburton of Newport, RI, Peter L. Warburton of Tiverton, RI; her stepdaughter Alejandra Vernon of Long Beach, CA.; her half-brothers John McKean of Pinehurst, NC, Thomas McKean of Concord, MA, Robert McKean of Hamilton, MA, and David McKean of Washington, D.C.; 9 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and a multitude of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Memorial services will be held at Ascension Memorial Church, 31 County St., Ipswich, Saturday, November 2 at 10:30 a.m., followed by a celebration of her life at Myopia Hunt Club, Hamilton.
