BARBARA BEINHOCKER Obituary

Beinhocker, Barbara Broadley Passed away peacefully on November 28, 2014 on her 77th birthday. She was born in Bronxville, NY, the daughter of Charles Vincent Broadley, a U.S. Naval Officer, and Margaret Broadley (née Ericson), a published author. Barbara spent her childhood in Kensington, MD where she was a student at the National Cathedral School in Washington, DC. She received an A.B. from Brown University in 1959 and an Ed.M. from Harvard in 1960. She was an artist whose work drew inspiration from the natural world and our relationship to it. Her art combined an appreciation of a scientific view of nature with a celebration of the spiritual kinship of all living things. Her work has been exhibited widely including at Harvard University, the Vermont Institute of Natural Science, Bermuda National Arts Center, Massachusetts Audubon Society, Earthwatch Institute, and the Concord Art Association. She was the winner of several juried shows and her work is in both private and corporate collections. She was also an art educator who taught for over 30 years in schools, churches, and for community organizations. She was a lay minister in the Episcopal Church and active for many years in the choir and arts ministry at the Church of Our Redeemer in Lexington, MA. Barbara is survived by her husband of 53 years Dr. Gilbert D. Beinhocker, her sister Mrs. Deborah Gale, her sons Mr. Eric D. Beinhocker and Mr. Robert M. Beinhocker, her daughter Mrs. Elizabeth Beinhocker Overstreet, and by four grandchildren Anna, Clara, Luke, and Erin. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 6th at 1pm at the Church of Our Redeemer, 6 Meriam Street, Lexington, MA. Messages of condolences may be posted on www.keefefuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Art Resources Collaborative for Kids (ARCK) at www.arckboston.org. I was just thinking about Barbara this morning and wishing I could introduce new Broadley cousins to her, so it was really strange to get this message.

I am so sorry to read of Barbara's death. We corresponded for some years on the subject of her Broadley Family History. She emailed me a copy of one of her pictures but I had never seen her face before. Goodbye, Barbara. Marie Ball

We met Barbara at All Saints Episcopal Church for art classes, which was a most wondrous experience: learning to see. I treasure that time and am so grateful to Barbara for opening my eyes. She was so exuberant yet patient as a teacher. My deepest condolences to the Beinhocker family.

My deepest sympathy to Barbara's family. I was a student of hers for many years at All Saints Church. Her teachings and artwork will always remain an inspiration to me. She was a beautiful person who loved nature and portrayed it in her paintings.
