When I think of Dr. Curran and his care of me for 33 years, one single word comes to mind--"Devotion," devotion to God; to his wife, children and family; and to his career and patients.

I was diagnosed with bipolar illness in 1976 and became a patient of Dr. Curran in December of 1980.

He held locked in his heart all the sorrows, pains and little triumphs of his patients for years, and with gentle encouragement helped us endure our illnesses. He gave me all kinds of advice, from financial ("Pay off the debt first.") to plumbing ("Don't flush facial tissues!")

One day in the 1980's, I arrived at his office with a take-out cup of coffee and he chastised me. "You young people come to your appointments with beverages and food and don't realize how rude that is to eat and drink in front of someone who has nothing." I said, "I'm sorry, Doctor, but thank you for calling me 'young people.'" He laughed out loud.

Following another appointment, I asked Dr. Curran to pray for me. He said, "I pray for all my patients."

Dr. Curran prescribed medications and provided therapy for me through several hospitalizations, one for severe depression. I was fortunate to be treatable and had a full life, a career in writing, and eventually self-published two books of poetry. I owe it all to him.

I extend my deepest sympathy to Mrs. Curran and the Curran family.

Rest in peace, John Joseph Curran, as you reside in heaven with the Holy Trinity, all the angels, and the saints--your reward for a life well-lived.

Please pray for all of us!

I am sorry to learn of Dr. Curran's passing. The Curran's were long ago family friends of my dad in East Boston. He was example of what hard work and a kind heart can accomplish.

A true friend of mine for many years at the Newton Wellesley Hospital has sadly passed away. Always firmly committed to his faith, Jack shared his thoughts and wisdom candidly with me on religion, ethics, morality, and politics in our many discussions at coffee breaks in the hospital. You could not find a more honest or sincere person, and I will sorely miss him.
My deepest sympathy to his wife, Jean, and his family.

The loss of Jack, following, as it does, hard on the heels of his great friend, Dr Gus Laurenzi, is a heavy blow. A cheerful, considerate soul, Jack demonstrated all the characteristics of a true friend. I shall miss him, greatly. My thoughts and prayers are with Jeanne and his family at this difficult time.
