Matty (and Henry) were a big, big part of my life when I was a child. We always shopped at Surfine when I was growing up and when my mother got overwhelmed she could always call and get an order delivered. One of my fondest memories of my childhood. I will always remember him fondly. My sympathies to the family.

Deepest sympathy to the Folan family on the passing a of true gentleman, from his cousins in Ireland. He gave me a great welcome when I visited him on my first trip to Boston. May he Rest in Peace.

Matthew P. Folan was my first employer. I began working at High Street Market when I was 15 years old. I will never forget the day Matt went for tea with a friend at Bergson's and left 4 teenagers in charge of the store whose reputation he built day to day for 30 years. The oldest of us was 17 years old. Before he left for his tea I was alarmed and I asked him, "Matt, what will I do if we have a lot of customers while you are away?" He replied, "You will take care of them and do a great job of it." Well, the customers came and I did a great job just like he said I would. I will never forget the confidence he had in me. He remained my life-long friend. It is with great pride that I will always declare: "I worked for Tam Nalof."

Matty and Jean were great friends with my mom, Jackie Mulcahy. I have wonderful memories of hanging at Matty's pool with my brother and sister. Always good seeing him thru the years at Shurfine, he was always happy and made me feel very welcome. He was a great guy.

"Hi oh High Street Market if we don't have it, you don't need it" was Matty's call at the High Street Market in the 80's & 90's - A true gentleman that loved a good story and a good laugh - Did so much for people less fortunate - A great friend to me and my family - RIP my friend, you were a treasure for sure - Well Done ---

I grew up on Silver Street, just around the corner from Shurfine Market which we always referred to as "Matty's." Matty Folan greeted every person with a smile, even the kids. May he rest in peace.

We lived right across from Shurfine Market on Nahatan St. Matty was always a happy, honest man. Many a time he'd save my mom a really nice special cut of meat and was always willing to trust me if I didn't bring enough money. RIP

One of Norwood's finest Old Timers who lived out the values of everyday Judeo/Christian Principles that we don't see much more of today. Mattie was generous in so many ways. We will always remember Matt when we drive by The Shurfine Market.

Matty was one of the kindest gentlemen I've ever met. Always a welcoming smile and a twinkle in his eye. God certainly called home another angel.
