PAUL LOVETT Obituary

LOVETT, Paul A. 61, of Pembroke, passed away on Monday, August 21, 2017 after living with multiple myeloma for eight years. Paul always had a deep interest in nature, the outdoors, animals, science, and history. As a child, he spent summers with his family in Yarmouthport, MA, and came to know the beaches and trails, ponds and estuaries that fed his love for land and sea creatures. Some of his favorite spots on the Cape were Gray's Beach, the Botanic Trails, and the Parnassus bookstore. Having received his degree from Southeastern Massachusetts University in 1978, Paul found that most jobs in his major of Marine Biology didn't exactly pay a living wage. He sought positions in other areas of science and began a career in the biotech field. Paul worked for a number of companies during his career in drug manufacturing and medical diagnostics, usually in the area of quality assurance. Paul traveled for both his career and for pleasure to a number of countries, including the UK, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Kenya, and the Virgin Islands. He loved everything to do with boats and ships and made a point of visiting shipyards, docks, and marinas wherever he traveled. On a recent river cruise down the Rhine, Paul greatly enjoyed the opportunity to watch European locks in operation and see busy commerce and ports along the river. Closer to home, Paul enjoyed working with plants, from raising small bonsai and orchids to pruning ornamentals to taking down 70 foot pines with his chainsaw. He had an artist's eye for planting and cultivating all different kinds of trees and bushes. Paul also had a great love of reading, especially history and politics. He read two newspapers daily and most recently he was reading about World War II, in which his father flew as a navigator. Paul had a map of the missions his dad flew along with his logbook, and loved showing it to family and friends. Paul loved and had great respect for animals, from the smallest chipmunk that visited his gardens to the leopards and lions of Africa. He also loved snorkeling and scuba diving and seeing the many plants and creatures of the oceans. Having grown up with cats, dogs, horses, and sheep, he most recently shared his home with two cats, Smokey and Daisy, who brought him great joy. The son of Mary Lovett of Quincy, MA, and the late Paul A. Lovett Sr., Paul was the beloved husband of Sandra Lovett of Pembroke, MA, for 35 years. One of six siblings, he also leaves brothers Patrick Lovett and companion Kara O'Donnell, of Quincy, MA, Joseph Lovett and wife Carmen Rivera of Florence, MA, and Daniel Lovett and wife Stacy of Ashfield, MA, along with sisters Susan Lovett and husband Matthew Wunder of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Martha Lovett and husband Pete Robichaud of Moscow, ID. Paul also leaves sister-in-law Susan Marycz and husband Paul of Tucson, AZ, four nieces and nephews, and a great-nephew. Visiting hours will be held at Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington St., Rte 53 in HANOVER on Friday from 4-7 PM. Burial will be private.
