DOROTHY ARNOLD Obituary

ARNOLD, Dorothy "Doffie" Of Concord, MA, died May 29, 2018, at 94. Doffie was a well-loved matriarch of her family, guiding the values of the generations that came after her with the fiery love, honesty, loyalty, and uniquely glamorous outfits that can only come from a confidence in one's self. She had a way of gently touching those around her -- an innate ability to listen and to make others feel valued. Dorothy's legacy includes a collection of art that showcase's her ability to energize a canvas with a unique and expressive sense of motion for which she was perhaps best known. She was most at home surrounded by her tubes of acrylic paint, humming quietly to an opera rarely appreciated by her grandchildren at the time. Through her wealth of talent and the generosity of those around her, her art now lives throughout Boston and beyond from the deCordova Museum, to the Massachusetts General Hospital, to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, to the furthest reaches of California and Europe. She is survived by two daughters and one son, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She joins her late husband, David Arnold Jr., where together they can finally answer their favorite question to each other "When have you ever had a better time?" Her life will be celebrated at Trinity Church in Concord at 11 AM on July 27, 2018. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Umbrella Community Arts Center in Concord.

To the Arnold children, we didn't know your parents well but your mother's art populated our late parents' houses, first in Newton and then in Santa Barbara. And her art covers our father's posthumous book of poems. My husband and I have two of her small works framed in our dining room in Austin, Texas. She lives on through her art and may you all take comfort in a life well lived and a legacy for both your parents of making the world a better place. Respectfully, Rebecca Karoff

Thoughts given and valued by loving insightful family. Dot's kindness and flare were not lost on any and very possibly influenced more than she could have ever known. l am glad you had her in your lives. Proverbs 31:31; Ruth 2:12.
