Smoki's passing is without question a major milestone for Boston and all who knew her. Fiercely passionate about human rights and fairness for everyone, Smoki forged her own path on her own terms. She never shied away from speaking out when others remained silent.
Smoki was also a woman of indefatigable intellectual curiosity. She engendered curiosity about ideas in politics, the arts and literature, and fostered them in countless ways around Boston. For decades she and her husband Dick Concannon hosted events where people from all backgrounds could exchange ideas and enjoy the duo's trademark hospitality.
Most of all Smoki was a proud parent, grandparent and mother-in-law whose affections knew no limits. She will be missed by so many. It was a privilege to have known her for some 30 years. We will miss her legendary passion for life and unwavering support for countless civic and artistic causes that have made Boston a better place for all.
With condolences & great sadness,
John P. Margolis, AIA

I was so sad to hear about the death of Smoki Bacon, raconteur, flaneuse, and longtime Boston activist. I was fortunate to have Smoki and her elegant husband Dick Concannon on my Book Stew show in February 2015. I'm sharing this as a tribute to these fine folks. With my regards, Eileen MacDougall
