WILLIAM MANNING Obituary

MANNING, William R. "Bill" Of Littleton, MA, passed away on April 18th, 2021 surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of twenty six years, Susan (Evans) Manning, and sons, Ian and Liam Manning. He is also survived by his parents, William H. and Nancy Manning, his brother, Todd Manning, and sisters, Maribeth Benjamin and Laura Supple, as well as his nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was born and grew up in Wrentham, MA. He graduated from Bishop Feehan High School, Marquette University with a BSEE in 1988, and Northeastern University with an MSEE in 1995. Upon graduation from Marquette, he joined Texas Instruments in Attleboro, MA, where he worked in Product Engineering. He moved to Schneider Electric, where he served as Vice President of their Development Organization located in Andover, MA. His cancer forced him to semi-retire in 2020.

His joy was in family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, and son. He was proud of both his sons, watching them grow and mature into wonderful and successful men. Bill loved family gatherings and dinners at local venues as his laughter and fun side would light up the room. He was selfless to those he loved, offering his talents to anyone whom he could help.

Bill played several sports growing up and went on to coach for his boys. His closest friends were lifelong with whom he enjoyed camaraderie, competition, and social occasions.

A Celebration of his Life will be held at a later date. Bill will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

I met Bill in 1988 at Texas Instruments in Attleboro, MA. We were two rookies. He was my boss and I was his first employee who just graduated from New England Tech. By the way, he invited me to a restaurant to celebrate my graduation, we had a great time. We work in building 21 at TI (Motor Control). We had excellent work experiences. I resigned in 1990 to move to Puerto Rico. A few times I did Internet searches for his whereabouts and never found anything. Today, after 32 years, I found this. I am in shock. Bill was an exaggeratedly responsible person, very polite, very respectful, an excellent human being and sometimes very funny. By then Bill was skinny and single. Now I know that he has a beautiful family. God richly bless his family. Peace!

Bill was above me for part of my time at APC. He always used very kind words with me, & God used him in my life. I retired under him many years ago and am so glad he had such a wonderful effect on so many around him. I pray those who knew him will be comforted by the love of God through Jesus. Lord bless each one of those people, specially his family and bring your peace to them, in Jesus' name. Amen

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Manning, MB, Todd, Laura,
I am so sorry and saddened to hear of Bill’s passing. He was an amazing person that always lit up a room with his big smile and that twinkle in his eyes. His sense of humor and positivity carried us through those grueling engineering days at MU.
May you cherish all the beautiful memories of Bill for an eternity, and take comfort in new ones as his legacy lives on in his sons. My deepest heartfelt sympathies to you all, his wife and sons.

Dear Uncle Bill, Aunt Nancy, Maribeth, Todd, Laura, Susan, Liam and Ian,
I will always remember Billy's great smile!
We spoke briefly at my dad's wake less than 18 months ago. Billy spoke openly about his family supporting him through his illness and how grateful it made him feel. I hope knowing this will bring you some peace.
I am so sorry for your loss. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Sue
Tonight I have just heard about Bill. I am heartbroken for you and your boys. I will never forget Bill breaking the ice and initiating a conversation between us. I am not one for talking much but Bill made me feel instantly at ease. I liked Bill from the start. A true gentleman. I am thinking of you.

I have worked for Bill for over 15 years at APC and Schneider. He was a decent, honest and fair person. It was my privilege and good fortune to get to know him. Working with Bill for over 15 years was the most enjoyable period of my career and most fulfilling as well. Rest in eternal peace my friend, you will always be in my prayers. May God give courage and patience to the grieving family to bear this loss.

So sorry to hear of Bill's passing. Bill and I met our freshman year at Marquette as we were assigned the same floor at McCormick Hall ("Heaven on Seven"). We Chicago guys quickly bonded with Bill and his fellow Attleboro compatriots Paul Achin, Sergio Pedro and Steve Hudson (RIP). We all watched Super Bowl 20 together, at least for the first half and became roommates our senior year. Bill was a great friend and I mourn his passing. Condolences and prayers to the Manning family.

Susan, Ian, Liam,
I am so saddened to hear of Bill's passing and my heart and prayers go out to you and your entire family and so many friends.
I, too, am part of the group having joined APC (Schneider Electric) in 1997 and worked out of the West Kingston office working with Bill often over the years until 2017. Bill had such a joyful presence and was just an amazing person to work with. His joyful presence loomed even larger at the various engineering/product management team building and social gathering events. Rest in peace, Bill.

I was shocked and saddened to hear the news today about Bill's passing. Bill and I both started at APC/Schneider Electric in 1997 and we have known each other and worked together ever since. It was a pleasure and a privilege to work with Bill and a honor to become a friend. Bill loved his family and often spoke about them. I spent a wonderful day watching football at his home in Littleton with the family who could not have been more welcoming. I remember one Sunday night arriving late from Ireland into Boston in the middle of an unexpected snowstorm. There was no chance that I could continue my journey. Bill called me as he knew I was coming in, and not only did be book a hotel for me on my route but also talked me from the highway directly to the front door of the hotel. He was one of life's gentlemen and I am so sorry for your loss. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

I did not see Bill (Billy) a lot but as cousins who would see each other occasionally at family gatherings I was always impressed with his smile, friendliness, and genuine interest in catching up with me. I do remember one time a while back when he and Susan invited me to their beautiful home to share a Sunday afternoon at the pool. I had a great time and felt so much at home with them and their two kids Ian and Liam. Last time I ran into Bill was probably about 4 years ago on the street Cambridge. He yelled “hey Jackie” with a big smile, a warm handshake, and a nice catch-up conversation. That was typical Bill.

I am so sorry Susan, Aunt Nancy, Uncle Bill, and the rest of Bill’s family (Ian, Liam, Maribeth, Todd, Laura) for your loss. Way too young for this.

First and foremost, my most sincerest sympathies for all of the family, relatives and friends of Billy. Billy and I went to high school together but we grew much closer during the college years and later. One of the best compliments that I believe can be bestowed on anyone .. is when you think of that person, the thought of them makes you smile or even laugh. Billy was that person. Even though we lost touch over the years with our respective families, whenever we did get together it was as though we have been talking all along and we never missed a beat. The last time I saw Billy was at our High School reunion and he had me in stiches the entire time. I consider Billy to be one of my best of friends and I know that I am not the only one who feels that way. That is just the person who Billy was. Rest in peace my brother, you will be sorely missed.
