Dr. Quimby was my Angel. He was a friend and doctor to my family. He delivered my daughter in 1961 and my son in 1964. He was their doctor and my doctor for many years following. I always felt better when I left his office just because he had such kind things to say and talk about. Never in a hurry..always in a good mood..always interested and in thought...always had the right answer. At one point, he even came to the house when I was really sick with something I had never heard of and got me better in no time. The man was so very special..I do not have words to explain this gentleman to the degree in which he deserves. Blessings go to him and his family in great abundance. A man I will remember and think about forever.

Sumner Quimby. A man as unique as his name. I first met Dr. Quimby in 1973 working as an ER check-in clerk at Blake Hospital. What an honor it was to be in his presence every day. I was only 19 at the time, but knew I was witnessing an amazing human being. His medical expertise for the sick was surpassed only by his precision like ability to repair a laceration. Plastic surgeons had nothing over Dr. Sumner Quimby. His southern drawl always got tangled in my maiden name [Colavito] and he elected instead to simply call me Maria-Maria. His smile was infectious, and his sense of humor was enjoyed by all. His favorite tale from medical school was his professor who taught the importance of being an observant physician. As he held a vial of urine he instructed Sumner and his classmates to taste it, and demonstrated by dipping his finger smack in the middle of it. The vial was passed around with choking gags all around. When the vial returned to the professor the class was told two things; the professor dipped his index finger, but had tasted with another; and fortunately the vial contained simply apple juice. But an observant physician he was and didn't hesitate to give an ER patient a RX on which he had written, ‘please bathe or shower daily'. He shared the love of his boat with us all which he called his refuge, even when it was still tied to the davits! An amazing man indeed who deserved the wonderful long life he enjoyed. We were all blessed to know him.
