Trevor Quest Obituary

Trevor Nichols Quest was born to his proud parents, Jeannie & Benjamin Quest, in Brattleboro, Vermont, on October 24, 1996. As a child, Trevor loved playing outside, & spending time with friends & family. Trevor attended Putney Central School, graduating in 2011. At PCS Trevor built lifelong friendships with peers & teachers that endured for many years. Trevor went on to attend Brattleboro Union High School, where he developed a love of mathematics, physics, & philosophy. Trevor was a remarkable thinker: he could untangle complex mathematical equations, while relating the numbers to philosophical & political theories. His mind danced between the concrete world of numbers & the abstract world of philosophy & ethics, often leaving the rest of us in the dust. Trevor graduated from BUHS in 2015, moving on to River Valley Community College, & graduating with a Liberal Arts degree in 2018. While at RVCC, Trevor shared his gift for academia by tutoring his peers in math. A true teacher, Trevor approached tutoring with empathy and patience. Most recently, Trevor was employed at The Putney Co-op, where he brightened the days of local shoppers. Additionally, he served as the Vice Chair of the Putney Energy Committee, & on the Board of Directors of Forest for Learning. In these roles, he threw himself into the work of fundraising & advocacy, unwavering in his quest to preserve Putney's remarkable natural environment & extensive trail system. Trevor had big plans for his future, including stand-up comedy, further conservation advocacy, & careers in teaching and writing (& beyond). Trevor is survived by his doting parents, Jeannie & Ben Quest, his grandparents & many loving aunts, uncles, & cousins. Trevor's bright smile & brilliant mind will be deeply missed by his loving group of friends, whom we hold in our hearts, along with his family.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Putney Forest for Learning.

I always shop early at the Coop, and Trevor was usually there, cheerful and observant, asking how I was, treating me and everyone else as the most important person to him at that moment. he was a treasure!

Dear Jeannie and Ben... My heart is heavy that Trevor has left us so soon. I knew him (and you) from Putney Central when he and my daughter Anja were there together, and then again from his time at the Co-op. He was such a bright light. His warmth and good cheer were contagious. He always remembered my Co-op number because I told him a silly joke that he never forgot and never let me forget. I am deeply sorry for your loss. His good nature and generous heart will live on in our memories of him. I will keep you all in my prayers. With love and deepest sympathy ~ Lee Alden

Jeannie and Ben: I was so saddened to hear about Trevor. Trevor was such a great kid when I had him for school savings, always cheerful, polite and kind. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this most difficult time.

Trevor was my advisee at B.U.H.S., where he spent most of his time in Advisory reading extremely thick books, often fantasy or mythology or science fiction. Then I was so happy to see him at the Putney Coop, where he never failed to brighten my day.
On Trevor's last day at B.U.H.S. before he graduated, and my very last day before retiring from teaching, I was filling up dumpsters with old files when he and his mom brought me this orchid. From its place of honor in a south-facing window, it's never stopped blooming.
He will live on in the minds and hearts of everyone who knew and loved him.
