MARY SARMIENTO Obituary
Melissa attended Sharp Elementary and Oliveira Middle School and was a 1990 graduate of Homer Hanna High School where she was a member of the Golden Eagle Band.
Melissa attended the University of the Incarnate Word where she received her BSN with honors in 1996 and worked at Methodist Hospital in the ICU for 17 years.
Melissa is survived by her husband, Carl Charles; her parents, Tessie and Jose Sarmiento Sr.; her brother and sister-in-law, Joe M. Sarmiento Jr. and Imelda; her godmother, Mrs. Mary A. Yturria; uncle, Carlos G. Sarmiento I.; many cousins; and two cats, Remo and Molly.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a favorite charity or to the Brownsville Animal Defense at 1225 N. Expressway, Suite C1, Box 150A, Brownsville, Texas 78520.
Melissa was a great cat lover.
Memorial services will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, in the Chapel at Methodist Hospital, 4411 Medical Drive No. 200, San Antonio, Texas 78229.

Tessie, I am out of town but just read this in the Herald online. I had not heard Melissa was ill. I cannot imagine what it is like to lose your child. I am so very sorry for your loss. I will be in prayer for you and all those who loved her.

Mel was a wonderful person who accepted me for who I was. She guided me through our early college years. I have so many fond memories. My condolences to her family. Very sorry for your loss. She will be truly missed.

I was sad to learn of Melissa's passing. My deepest condolences to Melissa's family and friends. I knew Melissa at Oliveira Jr High and her mom was one of my teachers. I have many fond memories of her. Rest In Peace Melissa.

Melissa was my best friend in Jr High and High School. She was a witty and beautiful person both inside and out. She will be greatly missed but my memories of her will never be forgotten.

My condolences to Mr. and Mrs. Sarmiento and to Melissa's husband Carl and the rest of the family. I have many good memories of Melissa at Oliveira MS being we were in band together and in the clarinet section!! You will be missed Melissa and memories of you will forever be etched in my mind. Rest in Peace my friend....
