Roger C. Rothhaar

Blakesburg Iowa - Roger C. Rothhaar, 79 of Blakesburg, Iowa passed away early Tuesday morning January 16, 2018 in Monroe County Hospital, Albia, IA. His death was unexpected of an apparent heart attack. Roger was born February 2, 1938 in Chatfield, OH to the late Perry S. and Gladys F. (Candel) Rothhaar. He was married August 23, 1959 to Jane (Murphy) Rothhaar who preceded him in death July 31, 2017. Roger was also preceded in death by brother Lyle; sister Patricia Gottfried; and sister in laws Lula, Miriam, and Zelma.

Roger is survived by sons Ronald Allen (Patricia) Rothhaar of Iowa and Roger Ryan (Katia) Rothhaar of Reedsville, IN; brothers Perry Donald, Wayne, Kevin, and Dwight (Johanna); sister in law Pat Rothhaar; brother in law Virgil Gottfried; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Roger graduated from Chatfield high School in 1956 and worked at Timken for 30 years. He and his wife moved to Iowa in 2001 where he farmed. Roger was an avid Bow Hunter and was a lifelong member of the Professional Bow Hunters Assoc. He wrote 2 books on deer hunting and numerous articles for the Bow Hunter Magazine. He enjoyed working on machinery on the farm and taxidermy.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am in the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home with burial to follow in Brokensword Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm. The family suggests memorials be made to the donor's choice and expressions of sympathy can be left at www.munzpirnstill.com.

Roger was a true friend he hunted deer bear with me. I learned more about deer in the two years with him. When he and Darrell found me after falling from stand and I was on my belly. Rodger was at the top of greatest whitetailbowhunters. His knowledge of the whitetail buck was unbelieveable. Never read anyone that knew as much as he did about mature white tails. Plus he hunted with recurve bow not many do anymore. You take mature whitetail buck with a recurve bow you have done the ultimate in hunting.he will be greatly missed.

Met Roger years back at Denton Hill and our friendship grew out of our common interests in archery and similar work background (tool/die and machinists). He asked that I help him with making a batch of his Baby Snuffers, which I did. From that day on we kept in touch with phone calls and even a visit to his home. My condolences to his family; we have lost a good man.

I met Roger and Jane, two summers ago. They graciously invited me into their home for an overnight stay, which turned into a 2 day visit. Their hospitality was second to none, i assure you. Going forward, my life will be better for having met them.
Just absolutely wonderful people.

My sincerest condolences to Ronald and Ryan and the rest of the family. Your father was a huge influence on me and many others. Your mom and dad opened their home to so many including myself. The fine art of archery hunting just took a big step backward.....the loss of Roger will be heard around the archery hunting world for a long time....
I hand the pleasure of hunting with Roger on several occasions in Ohio and Pa.....and learned a great deal each time....he was an open book to any and all who took the time to listen....if you didn't learn from him, it was your fault....

I fear the younger generations have no idea what an inspiration Roger was for bowhunting. He was in a league of his own.
